My Bluetooth sounds like a cup and string!!

I really love my SR5, but the microphone fitted for Bluetooth, sounds absolutely horrible.:happens: Everyone complains about how tinny it sounds, (especially those that heard me on my Ford Sync), and today the sales manager said he agreed. He was as surprised as I was.

Anyone here get complaints from friends? Maybe it's just mine.Wondering if either the TE or the LE got a better (or same) setup. Thinking I should attempt to change microphones if I can pop that overhead piece out............

Mine is terrible. I keep forgetting to ask the dealer to look at it. Maybe I will remember this time around...

I've not had any complaints from people not being able to hear me and I haven't had a problem listening to people talk on it either.

All personal preference, perhaps?

Mine was an ad on blu tooth on my SR5 & it sounds better than my wife's RX350 factory install. Go Figure!

I start every phone call with, "You better NOT say anything BAD about how I sound"......so I don't know if my input counts but seriously, I've never heard a hands-free that didn't sound like crap and I have some friends with those "spensive cars".

I think it may depend on the phone you're using. Mine sounded fine with my old Razr V3xx. I got a new phone and now I can barely hear anything on the handsfree. I can't find any setting on the phone or the truck to fix it, so I quit using it.

So how to all of you know how bad it sounds? Do people complain a lot or does your other half drive it and call you? I don't remember a single complaint about mine, but most of my calls are to people who would not really complain unless they really could not hear me.

I have wondered if the 4R has updates for the firmware/software that runs these HU's. I know my wife's new escape you can check on-line and download all the sync updates to a usb drive and get the latest and greatest features. Curious if Toyota even has stuff for the dealers that might just address the basic crappy connections some people have.

You have turned volume on phone up while on a bluetooth call? Also cranked up bluetooth volume on 4r using steering wheel volume up during a call?


Both must be done while on a call.

The only issue I have is that when I first answer, I have to wait a second or so before I speak or they don't hear me answer. Otherwise, it sounds just fine on both sides. I've also called and left myself a voicemail message to see what I sound like, and although I can tell I'm on a handsfree phone, it is perfectly clear and there's no background noise. I've been very pleased with the system.

System works fine. Doesn't have anything to do with the phone by the way, unless you're having hookup issues. I own a recording studio and good microphones make all the difference.

If you heard how fabulous SYNC bluetooth sounds with your voice (not the speakers) you'd know what I mean. People thought I was calling them from a land line.

This is your opinion. When I am driving and talking many people assume that I am in my office because of the clarity. My wife has called from the 4Runner and I have heard the quality myself and it is just fine. Maybe you should get that checked out.

Actually it's the opinion of those who I called. Glad yours sounds OK. Went by the dealership and they thought that although it was tinny sounding, that it was normal. That's why I asked in my first post if anyone else noticed this, or was it a case of cheaper model, cheaper bluetooth?

I'm going to have to check out other SR5's and see if they are as poor as mine. At least a few here have said that their's are fine so there is hope that I can get the dealer to fix this.

I'd just like to get it better sounding so I don't have to listen to people complaining that they can't hear me clearly or that the vocal quality is lousy.

I'm using a Samsung Rugby II. I've tried increasing the volume while on a call-no luck.

Edit: My handsfree didn't match what the manual described at all. I dug out the window sticker and its a "distributor installed" option. It seems to work fine today. Low quality POS!

A lot of times I find myself shouting. People outside probably think I'm in an argument.
