Hi guys,

Last week, my TE got one of it's windows smashed and some stuff was taken. Didn't set off alarm - but I wasn't surprised as I figure even low lifes know that opening the door will trigger it. I was packing up for a trip around 5 AM - took some stuff out to the runner and came back 30 min later and there was a nice piece of 20% tint and my window on the ground.

Anyway, I was wondering if there is a stand alone "window break detector" type of device that is on the market. I have read a few threads about Compustar - but if a cheaper option is out there to help supplement the stock alarm system I feel that may be a better bet (for my starving student sized wallet).

So in the 4th gen 4Runners you could get a Toyota RS3200+ Security System added to your 4Runner (its a plug and play unit with a glass break sensor and such) for a couple hundred dollars (at least its what I paid for the kit, dealer installed was obviously more); it for the most part added some extra security to the vehicle (the glass break sensor works good and it's a good factory option for the 4th gens due to cost, ease of install, ect.)

Unfortunately, in the 5th Gens they never offered that option; nor does it seem they offer a glass break sensor in any trim level. Which means you're best bet is 3rd party/aftermarket if you want something like that. As the above poster mentioned [MENTION=93434]gshadow325[/MENTION] is a good source for the aftermarket scene in alarm systems.

Please look at the thread I made about oem remote with factory key it's a thread that starts with psa: aftermarket remote start. My videos can really clear up questions you might have. Price isn't really that bad. We can discuss more via pm if you want.

It sucks to become a statistic. I hate that violated feeling.

I'll throw in my vote for the aftermarket Compustar solution as well. [MENTION=93434]gshadow325[/MENTION] is the go-to guy here on the forum, and helped me tremendously with my decision. My insurance requires me to alarm my vehicle so they'll cover my photography equipment while being transported. The nice thing about Compustar is that even though it may not prevent the broken window, it might scare them off before they take anything....or at least it will page you on your phone while it's happening to give you an opportunity to see them doing it and potentially scare them off. It's hard to stop a "snatch and grab"...even with an alarm, but at least the police report might be more complete so that MAYBE they'll catch the jerks. Sorry this happened to you.

You know thieves know more than we give them credit for. they are the scum of the earth that resorts to stealing than going to work like everyone else and getting their own stuff.

You can get teh best system out there BUT its only as good as its install.
Think of security as a investment like how you shop for tires, wheel, suspension etc.

thats why i created that thread, the link is in my previous post. i think my videos will make your head stop spinning. Lots of cool stuff. Also that is the LATEST and MOST Current information. factual info, not well i heard, it might be, i think....NONE of that.

Oh interesting, I didn't even realize it was made by Code Alarm! The RS3200+ looks really factory with Toyota branding and everything. I don't have the remote start package (didn't really feel I needed it.) Learn something new every day!

In the future I will probably go to a higher quality aftermarket system, but for now between the RS3200+ and Immobilizer I am pretty content with what I have. But don't be surprised if I send you some PMs when I am shopping for a new one!
