Need opinion on colors........Its dip time!

Closing in on the date that I want to start dipping my rig. Hopefully it gets a little warmer at the end of march.

Here are the colors I've chosen.

1. Battleship Gray (almost a light primer color, not as dark as the gunmetal)

2.Flat Black (I forgot who the user was, but he wrapped his)

3. Flat White

4.Army Green/Camo Green

5.Gunmetal (dark primer)

I think he is looking at the plastidip because you can get a whole dip kit for like 300 +/- and it'll be easy to touch up. I wanna say I remember him saying something about vinyl tearing up pretty easy on the trails, but I could be wrong.

I voted Camo green, but either way, Either battleship or Camo would look awesome in flat mat. I went green because of the possible 'primer' look for the grey.

Yep, Spencer is correct. I got quoted for a full vinyl wrap and it was over $3k. I talked to BlairB about it and he said it just doesn't hold up, especially when you wheel your rig.

Plastidip is pretty thick if you do it right. I've seen dipped wheels go full contact with a rock face and not even phase it. I'm not worried about it peeling off, if it does, I can just respray it, its better than having a $3k wrap peel off and not even be able to use it again.

Ok, I'm not singling you out, but for those who think wrapping looks better. Out of these 6 cars, which one is vinyl wrapped? Do not look at the image codes or look on google, you literally cannot tell a difference.

From a distance they'll look the same unless you have applied it heavier in one section to another. If you're looking at it up close you can tell the difference by the detail. Either space gray, or army green get my vote.

At a car show last spring I talked to a guy from a shop that does vinyl wraps. He was really eager until I told him I wheel the truck and asked about durability. He told me flat out that it wouldn't hold up at all to even a tree branch. Said that he would refuse the job if I brought it to him. One of my friends plasti dipped his plate bumper and sliders and they've held up pretty well. The only bad plastidip story I've heard was a set of wheels that were done then started peeling off, but that involved breaking through a frozen stream on the trails.

Careful if you go white - I hear it gets dirty easily and is tough to get back to a pure white.

Go with the green. Second choice would be green. Third choice would have to be green if you don't go with #1 or #2.

In terms of the 4Runner, I think the Camo Green is the best choice. I like the battleship gray, but I don't think it will look good given the dimensions of the 4Runner.

Anyone who knows anything about autobody and paint knows what a car looks like in primer or sealer, and anyone who knows will see a vehicle that is any shade of grey and wonder when you are going to paint it a real color lol. The green is unique and not too many primers or sealers are that color. One more thing to mention and that is staining. No matter if it is a wrap or plastidip a matte finish will stain easier from such things like oak leaves, pine sap, bird poop or other acidic liquids. Dark colors like matte black or camo green are ok. The reason is no clear coat top coat for protection. And no, any wax or sealant will NOT even come close to protecting the finish like a sprayed clear coat. So that's my .002. Good luck and can't wait to see it!
