New Fiamm Horn Install

...but I found 3 horns in my '10 Limited.

I found 2 horns side by side in front of the radiator and a 3rd horn (at least it looks like a horn) next to the air filter box. I had to move this horn when I installed my aFe CAI.

Does anyone else have 3 horns, or have a horn near their air filter? The aFe instructions indicated that if there is a horn there, then you'll need to move it.

After reading your note, I checked my TE and I also found an extra horn next to the air filter box. I have 2010 TE and I already installed 2 Fiamm El Grande at front too. I took it out and I did not see any different. Not for alarm either. Do anyone know what is the third horn for?? Thanks.

Based on page 3 of 18 in the "Theft Deterrent" PDF in the Electrical Wiring Diagram, it is the security horn and is part of the theft deterrent system.

On that page you can clearly see the two different leads with one going to the regular two pitch horns and a separate one to the security horn. It would also explain why it is hidden under the airbox.

M8x1.25 Bolt Size for 2010 TE's & SR5's 2nd Horn Mount

I owe you guys some pictures of FIAMM EL Grande horns installed in my 2010 TE. It was indeed very ez to follow and install. I installed them sometimes ago in Sept of 2010 and no one can ignore me on NY's "always congested" traffic. :driving: Happy Holidays, y'all...

bbkhine, I'm curious if you had a second mounting bolt for the non-existent 2nd horn in your 2010 TE. I have a 2010 TE that only had one horn and just installed the 2 FIAMMs in the same spots you did. Had to track down a bolt at the hardware store for the 2nd mounting location though (I have to laugh that Toyota didn't just install 2 horns in the 2010 SR5's and TE's in the first place...)

For anyone that has a 2010 TE or SR5 with only one horn and wants to install 2 horns in the "stock" locations, you'll need a M8 x 1.25 bolt to attach the second horn like bbkhine (and I) did. If you get a painted one like you'll find in the "Automotive" drawer at Lowe's, you'll need to file/sand/scrape the paint off the threads and contact surface to get a good ground connection. Otherwise you'll end up with two horns mounted under the hood, but only one that actually fires!

wanted to boost the horn-ski so, w/o checking the SR5 or this thread, i bought just the low-tone thinking i only had one horn. well, i have two. i installed the horn today and don't really notice that much diff. from now reading these posts, it seems that the horn(s) on the '11 are much better than the '10. taking a wild guess that this is because there are two as opposed to one. question: should i replace the other horn w/ the high-tone FIAMM or did i replace a low-tone w/ a low tone and that's why it's not that much louder? reading the back and forth here on decibels, phases and algorithms made me slightly confused.

Exactly, UtahSooner. TEs only have 1 horn installed. I just create "Y" type wire myself and just connected both horns to make sure "they heard me coming in busy nyc streets" haha... I have some 8M bolts lying around my tool box from my previous honda and I just used one of that. I bolted in underneath that flap cover as in the picture. Glad that you were able to find and install 2 horns. Thanks for sharing.

Installed my new horns on my 2012 Limited this weekend! A couple things:

1: The way the FIAMM horns are set up means that *my stock wires were not long enough to allow me to have them both pointed down like the OP. I just pointed them in the direction that allowed me to get the wires comfortably connected because I am not keen on splitting wires and doing stuff like that. Thankfully they are kinda pointed downward on 45 degree angles.

2. The piece that connects the stock grille to the body won't go back in if your left-most horn is pointed too far to the left, so fiddle around with the pointing and you should be fine. Don't give up (like I almost did) because you can make it work.

3. The car sounds like it has a normal horn now, there is nothing mind blowing about the sound but compared to the stock horns it is a notable improvement. I appreciate this b/c my goal was not to frighten or abuse people with my horn (even though I often want to). But if you want to have a punishing horn this is not the mod for you.

4. Like someone in this thread noted, the stock horns come with a housing in which the power plug goes, which is very slick. The FIAMM horns don't so once I connected them to the stock wires I covered the connection in electrical tape because it seemed pretty exposed.

Got my el grandes from amazon yesterday

Planning on installing them this weekend in my sr5. I need to make a jumper as sr5s and te models only have one horn. I noticed that folks used 16 or 18 gauge wire to make the jumper. This may be a silly question, but I have a length of 14 gauge (thicker wire) on hand- would that be okay as well? I cannot think why it wouldn't be. Then I'd just need to pick up some crimping connectors and a 3/8 bolt as I plan to use the method of the OP. Thanks boys

Hi all,

I have Canadian 2011 SR5.
I always thought the horn was weak, so I got Fiamm horn from Amazon
FIAMM 74100 El Grande - Twin Horns - Red : Amazon.com : Automotive
and installed.
First of all I was surprised to find two horns factory installed, I thought there's one from reading this thread.
The Fiamm was a different tone, but not louder than the OEM horns.
I took them off and will return them.

I might post a pic of my Toyota horns later...

Ya ,pretty sure only 2010's came stock with the 3rd gen's meep meep horn(s). We were special!lol

Funny to see this surface again. I knew from this thread that I wasn't going to like the horn. I did try it on a first test drive. Embarrassing!

I bought my Fiamms on the way home with the new truck, and installed them before dinner that night.

i noticed that my 2010 4runner had weak corolla/yaris sounding horns that i was going to replace down the road.. when i traded it in on my 2011 4runner.. the horns on the 2011 sounded as they should!(similar to my previous lexus) just thought i'd throw that in there
