What's up everybody! Just wanted to say hello and share some photos of my cargo box/sleeping platform. I feel it's the least I could do to help contribute to this amazing site. (Just hope I did it right. Not the greatest with computers.) Got my 2002 Thundercloud Grey Sport Edition last May and went online to find out how to fix my driver side door lock and came across this incredible site with loads of info. Everyone always seems like they're willing to lend a helping hand and giving their two cents into any discussion. The only other mods I made were the Deckplate and ISR mods. Pretty happy with them!

Yeah, linky no worky.

Welcome to the site. I'm relatively new here as well but have already learned a wealth of information here.

As JSMarine pointed out to me yesterday, this site has a cool feature which allows you to upload files directly to the site as opposed to hosting it on a file sharing site.

Below the text box that you type in, there is a button labeled 'Manage Attachments' under the 'Attach Files' box. Just upload it from there.
 
Whoops! Hmm.. I did try the "manage attachments" but it kept telling me that all my attempts to upload have failed. Ah well. Gonna take me some time to fix. There are, like, 23 pictures to share. Sorry about the wait guys. ON IT.
 
Looks great, nice job! I've been contemplating doing this myself. Looks like you can still use the rear seats with the front extension out.
 
This is very cool. I've been working on something similar for my '91 Yota pickup, and after seeing what you've done I'm rethinking everything. Nice work!
 
nice setup! I'm going to try making something similar this week, what brand are the metal drawer rails you used and where did you get them? And if you take out the forward portion of the platform do the rear seats have room to fold up like normal?

that looks pretty sick, how much did it cost you to make? Ive been looking into making one and trying to find some plans but ive come up with nothing. Ive also got 2 12" subs that id like to keep and would just have to figure out where to put 'em. Any ideas?
 
Well that is a great job man ! I really like that :thumb3:.
I like that setup so much I'm going to build it for mine . See I have a sub box in the back and I always have to slide the damn thing around in order to sleep half decent when I go camping / fishing . Building a deck over the sub solves pretty much the entire problem . I've thought about doing something like yours but seeing exactly what it would look like completed , that seals the deal .

Subs work best in ground pounder configuration with the storage system like that. Only issue you will have is insufficient air flow to cool your amps.... thats why I'm ripping my system out...



Nice storage system. Very cleanly done.

Hey Thanks All! And sorry for those of you who checked the bad link first. The inspiration for building came from checking out other people's posts like skyrat, glennyoshida, JSMarine and BajaRunner. They all had their purposes for building the deck boxes the way that they wanted - and the fact that they built it themselves is what finally convinced me that I could build one myself. I think the fact that I am very detail oriented helped!

The total cost was about $210 and everything was purchased at The Home Depot with the exception of the Locking Latch. Found it in a link JSMarine posted when he built his storage drawer. The drawer slides are 22", 100 lb capacity I believe. I would post some of the plans but most of it was done by eye and the measurements for the pine frame around the drawer was written on a napkin. I can post more detailed pictures if anyone wants to see it from other angles. May take awhile though.

The back seats are fully functional. There is a gap behind the seats. that is about 12" in depth due to the fact that the storage drawer doesn't extend fully into the platform. This is where I store my sleeping bag for now - with room to spare. The only compromise that I had to make was sacrificing some open vertical storage space - for obvious reasons.

I would be interested in putting a single sub in the back. Nothing drastic. Just something that will round out the sound in the 4Runner. Still workin' on that one!

I think I'm about to build one of these. I am going to have a 12 inch down firing sub box in the top left and a compartment for my air-tank and compressor for my horn in the top right. Then behind those I want to put a 18-16inch drawer from holding random supplies. I don't care about building the bed pat as I will probably never be sleeping in mine. I just want something to look nicer and get my big sub box out of the back.
 
Here's mine. I got my two amps up front and a 22" drawer behind them. My 8" solobaric sits on the side. I have a front platform I put in to make a sleeping area. The girlfriend and I can fit quite well. We use it to go camping. Works waaay better than a tent. Plug the 12volt fan in and crack the rear window. Now that lilving!
