hey guys, im new to this forum. im currently looking to buy a 5th gen 4runner. usually the 1st model of the new gen are the test rats and they usually try and correct any issue. i wanted to know is there any major issue with the 2010 5th gen 4runner. im coming from a lexus gs350 so im still debating on the 4th or the 5th. mainly the 5th because of the interior.

That may be true for other brands but the 2010 4runner has an excellent reliability rating from consumer reports.
 
There were several little things they fixed from 2010 on. For example the 2010's had a terrible horn. The 2010-2011's had very loud and squishy sounding brakes with a lot of travel upon actuation. The '12's were improved. The '10-12's had headlights that hazed along the top the '12's didn't. So it was little things. Here is a thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...l-complaint-thread-toyota-some-solutions.html that if you read it and look at owner's signatures for model years you will see complaints differ as model years change.
Toyota fixed most of these either through TSB's, material spec or substitution but to be clear the 10's through the '14's are all structurally and mechanically sound and the reliability and durability left intact. You can't go wrong getting any of the model years.

going from a 2nd gen gs350 to a 4runner is gonna be a huge adjustment. I was looking for a 2013 cpo gs350 awd before I decided to get a 14 4runner. now if your expecting the same level of refinement, features and etc, you might look into getting a gx460 cpo.

only bad part is that a cpo 2010 is gonna run around 35-40k which is probably out of your money range since your comparing to a 2010 4runner.

just a thought :)

the 5th gens are nicer but i like the available v8 in the 4th gens.
 
The power difference will be outrageous.. when i drove my mom's 3rd gen gs350 on a 500 mile trip then got in my 4runner, woe it was a dog.. i also had a 2nd gen gs400.. but i love my 4runner, just will have to get used to the power difference and the way they both shift is very different.
 
Thanks for the replies guys! It's a tough choice from the 4th and 5th. I'm not excepting total comfort from a lexus to a 4runner. The lexus is really nice but I want a SUV I can just throw around. Compared to the lexus I had be careful not to damage things and all that. Most 4th gen I've see had a lot of miles so I'm looking at 5th. Thanks for noticing the leon hardiritt, wasn't expect anyone to know those wheels. Im planning to get volks te37 I don't think the 16" off-road fits the capilers/rotor correct? Then I would have to go with 18" what offset are you guys usually running. Can I get away with 18x9 +0 without any issue? Or be safe and run 8 +20 or +30

If you would have read my reply you would have noticed in my signature that there is a "5th Gen Tire Fitment Guide." It includes all the info for you to figure out what wheels would fit for yourself.
 
What are general feelings on comparing a new 2014 LE runner to a used 2010-2012 gx460, as far as comfort, features, reliability, etc?

Most of the guys here that like that style get the konig Six shooters. cheaper and less paintful when they get scratched/dinged up.

those years are equal or slightly better compared to the 2014 LE. you have to remember that the gx line is the next level up for the 4runner since they are the same platform.

you get kdss, crawl, v8 pretty much in a 4runner LE as standard. and the interior features you get now in the 4runner LE they already had in the gx line years ago.

EDIT : I guess you could look at the GX as a marriage of the 2014 TE and LE with the 4th gen v8 in one package with way better interior features that you could never get in a 4runner.

and that is why its a lexus and the price to go with it :)
