NYC-Runner Build Thread

Did you find anything on your rig that you want to change after doing this?

Te be honest my truck did amazing and I was once again I'm overly impressed with its capabilities with some of the stuff I made it thru! I was probably one of maybe 2 other trucks that didn't have a locker and none of which did those last two trails so running with open diffs was definitely extra challenging in a lot of places but the Atrac really does well! I'm definitely planning on adding front and rear lockers and re gearing to 4:56s but those things were already on my list for the near future so hopefully this coming year. Also a rear bumper which has also been on the list and in the works for some time!

Other than that I don't think so I was very happy with everything else and made it thru everything that much bigger and more built trucks did(with a little help from the winch here and there haha) I did have a few issues with the RCI diff skid getting knocked forward and the collar hitting the drive shaft ( nothing my little sledge hammer couldn't fix) but it happened a few times and at cbielat had the same issue with his so we have to see if there's some sort of a solution for that.

Dude. This trip was so sweet! I'm wanting to post photos on my thread but I know it's going to take foreverrrrrrr. I guess I better get on it lol.

Actually no the bumper was from a run prior to this trip I just never got around to popping it out. But man the two bonus trails on the last two day were ridiculous! Thankfully I made it out without any major damage, I only snagged and snapped my rear brake wire on a rock and popped a bead on my front pass tire but we were able to get it on right way. These were definitely trails for straight rock crawlers that our trucks normally should really be on lol but it was and awesome experience non the less! A lot other rigs took some serious damage and not even from those two trails just some of the regular trail we were running.

That frontier in the pic above snapped both of his front CV's on one trail another built keep snapped his rear drive shaft and another jeep rear end blew up and there were lots more not to mention the cosmetic damage everyone got. All that damage on that excursion in the pic above was from that last trail, that thing is huge though lol. My overall goal entering this was to have fun, compete and not in cure any serious damage to my truck. So all in all in very happy!

I wish I could say the same.

Ahh yeah you took a few hits for the team man! It's all good we will re build and go back to conquer next time!

That's for damn sure!

Call me crazy but I actually like that jeeps fenders. Maybe a little smaller, but I could see doing that.

Your not crazy i was just day dreaming about it the other day haha I actually got the guys info who did all that tube and bumper work because i'm so close to just having somebody Fab me up a hybrid style bumper! I'm getting tired of all these broken promises :violin::pout: Then i was thinking... Hmmm maybe i could run some tube and connect them to the sliders for some extra protection... then i started thinking maybe it would be cool to do something similar to the fenders, the only place i see it getting tricky is from the rear bumper to rear of the sliders with the back door. Either way i think it could be cool if done the right way in a mad max bad ass kind of way :guitar3:

Well if you set the bar out just far enough the door will clear. I really like the idea of connecting it to the sliders and bumpers!
I want to buy a tubing bender from harbor freight and fab my own sliders, bumpers and such. Wish you were closer, I'm sure we could come up with some awesome stuff!

Yeah think it could work great and would add some good benefited protection! My buddy's 70 series LC is set up like that and they work great.Plus if you added the sheet metal in there like he did above ^ you'd have some seriously looking fender flares. I'm right there with you buddy i've been looking into welders lately especially since i'm going to start building my trailer this winter so i figure that's a great project to learn on.

His front fenders are out a little crazy for me, but Ya I'm digging it!
You know, with some mounting plates and plugs that you could bolt the tube together you could make it removable.. Possibly.

Yes his are a little extreme for sure haha That is true , it's nice to have removable armor so you don't have to run it all the time. I usually take my skids off for good part of winter when I'm not wheeling as much. I'd be a little weary though of it not being as strong bolted as if it were welded, I guess you would just need some serious mounting points and hardware!

I'm digging that Gobi ladder! I am doing the Rola stealth rack install with the drop mount this week. Ladder is next, but I can't seem to find the one like you have. I like how it conforms to the door much better than the straight ladder. Was that custom made?

Nice, it's a great set up i've been very happy with it! I'm not sure, it's definitely not custom, i bought mine off another member on here. If i remember correctly they make a couple different ones for the 4th gen because i think the rear hump/spoiler was different from 03-05 to 06-09. I would just give them a call..

That is one epic trip. Maybe one day I can make it out for this event. :thumb:

Bobby

Ah man what an amazing trip! Dude you should seriously! Try to come to the one next year, maybe you and PD can be teammates. I'm going to try to start doing a couple of these a year. It's different kind of experience from just a reg wheeling trip. It adds a nice little competitive edge to it while getting to explore new terrain and hang with friends and of yeah some epic wheeling!

Went to Rausch Creek this past weekend for a awesome event to raise money for a friend of mine who's had a unfortunate turn of events and had some serious health problems and is on the long hard road to recovery! It was a great turn out lots of great rigs, friends and some awesome trails time!
