Ok cool. From the bit of searching I did, I was seeing people upgrade the elocker to the air locker after the elocker failed. Guessing that was more of a "while I'm in there" kinda of scenario.

Makes sense i guess,, ARB's are quality lockers and in most eyes the top of the line for what we can put in our trucks! Like i said before if money wasn't a issue i would have done both F&R ARB's and called it a day. The factory Elocker is great too and does it's job but like any component can fail so that's the roll of the dice i guess..

My battery crapped out this week, 8 years isn't bad for a Toyota battery! I went to Sears today and picked up a die hard advanced agm battery group size 94. These are replacing the die hard platinum batteries, I was told today that they are no longer making them.

Got a little more work done on the trailer today until I ran out of gas. Just about finished up with the fenders on the other side. Starting to take some shape!

And just because I was bored earlier and saw the opportunity.

They held me up for 4hrs. I asked, what's the problem, your battery is bad, DUH. We don't make the platinum anymore, OK, why didn't you just come to me and we work this out... what you got!!!

Had to settle for a down grade brand new 5M group DIEHARD and he asked for my card, HUH, yeah we owe you a refund. $110 back on the card.

It is like /\ the one you stated. Just an odd size. They only had certain size/dimensions available on the shelf. 775CCA/ 120 RC. 2yrs warranty.
I'll just shop for another when the time comes.

Told him, AGM gel type, high CCA's and 4 terminals. And reasonably fit in there. I'm easy to work with. I know you DON'T have anything near 1150 CCA like I have.

Hey, for $140 and 1.5 yrs on the other battery and a new one good for 2 more yrs. I'm good in my eyes.


Looks like you are going at it on the trailer there. Not bad project for just learning to weld!!! LOOKING GOOD!!! When you can weld surface rust metal or powder coated with NO problems and good welds, It's like gravy when you have fresh steel to work with.

When I started to weld (self taught), They sent me out with a stick welder and .5 miles of wrought iron powder coated to be put up on a housing project. That was an experience.

Ah ok I gotcha, yeah that should be good. You can't beat it for the price. Mine has 800 CCA's they had a bigger one that would of been 850 but it would of been a tight squeeze and weighed a ton.

I'm not stressing it that much because I'm still going to do a dual set up down the road and get a good solid second battery as well!

Yeah it's a fun project for sure! Kind of learning as I go but I got my buddy who is usually there who welds for a living so it helps a lot. Yeah your not lying, welding on old rusty thin metal sucks! I got a chance to weld on some new clean metal and it's night and day.

Geesh yeah that doesn't sound fun at all! Damn and stick to wow that's crazy! But look at you now,pro welder over here welding up bad ass 4x4 bumpers!

Just went through your recent posts and i'm jealous. That trailer is going to look sick, hope you match your wheel and tire setup! I'm looking at getting a winch along with a rear bumper this year. I'm getting tired of not fitting in parking decks with the tire on top lol.

Yeah buddy it's going to be cool, excited to get it finished up and bring it camping! I'm having fun though right now building it and learning to weld at the same time. It should be all finished up by FJNE in April and ready to camping in. I would like to match the wheel and tire combo but i have to see if it's in the budget right now? Before FJNE i'm doing the re gear and locker and trailer so it's a lot.

Winch is always good to have! I hear you on the rear bumper! I actually just emailed Luke from 4x4 labs the other day about ordering the rear bumper kit with dual swing outs! Planning to order that sometime this spring also can't wait!..

Made a new tailgate for the trailer today. The original one was warped pretty bad and didn't sit flush with the tub. Plus it weighed about 100lbs! I framed it out using 1" square tubing. Just have to skin it now and on to the lid!

Haha well the welds hold their not the prettiest looking but they do the job,it takes me a while to get it done and i usually fudge up a couple pieces of steel every now and then but it's a learning process, a fun one though:thumb: Going get started on the lid this weekend this weekend and order the new axle soon! Trying to kick it into high gear because i know April will be here before you know it! On top of that i still need to do my re gear,locker and diff swaps with Rich and Josh before then too! Shit gonna be down to the wire again i already know it!

Got some more done in the trailer this weekend. I feel kind of bad giving all the attention to the trailer and not the 4Runner and bombarding the build with trailer pics but one day soon they will be one and I have a camping deadline haha ! Plus Now that the weather is starting to warm up big things coming soon for the old silver fox!

Anyways I'm having a lot fun learning with this welding and fabricating stuff! It's been some good much needed garage therapy thru the winter.

Finished up the tailgate this weekend. Skinned it and put fresh coat of paint on it.

Then I framed up the top of the tub with some angle iron so the lid I'm going to make has a nice flat even surface to sit on now.

Oh and I scored these off Craigslist for $50!! Going to mount them on a pair of steelies I have sitting in the garage that I also picked up for $50 a while back as another CL special. Going to have a sweet wheel and tire set up for the trailer!

Don't think of it as neglecting the runner, instead, it is part of the runner as they will be going together for them adventures.

That's exactly the way I'm looking at it, I can't wait until I can tow it behind the 4runner and go explore and have a sweet base camp set up!

I just know I have a ton to do on the 4runner but it's not the trailers fault it's a every winter thing when all the mods pile up awaiting for warmer weather.

Yes I'm learning that also. It depends on the angle that I'm welding at and also the angle of what I'm welding. Some look great and some look ok but definitely solid and strong. Funny enough usually the ones that come out the best are those odd places that no one can see and of course the ones in plain sight not as pretty ....

Picked up my FJ rear differential housing today. I figured while its out and I have easy access to it I mid as well armor it up a bit so I added some 1/4" thick plate to the bottom for a little extra protection. Also ordered a blue torch fab weld on differential cover, just waiting for it to arrive. Then cleaning it all up and painting it and installing the new 3rd member so it's all prepped and ready to go for the swap.

Thanks man! No no problem at all, we would never learn anything if we didn't questions here and there. I haven't been welding long at all , I just got my welder over this past Xmas. So I've been learning these last few months. My buddy welds for a living and his father in law also welded for like 30 years so they gave me a few lessons and pointers, I Aldo just watched a few youtube videos ( why not right) then it's just been learning as I go and like anything else the more you do it the better you get. There's also classes that's you can take. Not all my welds are the prettiest at times but as long as their solid that's all that matters.

I picked up Hobart handler 140, great little welder i love it! For a 120v it's perfect for doing light fab work. I originally wanted 220v but we don't have 220 in the garage. But you can do up to 1/4" with welder no problem. It also runs gas and gas less flux core wire which is cool.

You should look into it it's a lot of fun and a good skill to learn. Plus you can start doing a lot more cool shit to your truck and not have to pay people as much money to do it for you haha at least that's one of my justifications. It's been a fun build process but it will definitely be enjoyable when I can take it camping and enjoy it!

Trailer progress: mounted up the tailgate and started working on the lid. Also ordered the new axle, 3500 lb with electric brakes and 6x5.5 hubs to match the Toyota wheels
