Dent and Chip

Well I got a nice dent and chip in the paint on the front right fender just behind the headlight. Had a paint can fall off the shelf in the garage and bounce off the 4R.

At the body shop today and is going to cost $493 to pop and paint. Murphy is laughing as my deductible is $500 and my pocket is taking the hit. Can't wait to get her back though!!

Its been a long time since I've had an accident... but doesn't your insurance company fight it out w/ Geico?

Got a letter today from Geico, the other driver's insurer. It stated that "Based on our investigation we feel that you are partially responsible for this loss. Your failure to maintain proper lookout wtf and failure to maintain safe speed is the proximate cause of this loss." "Therefore, we will be unable to issue payment for the damages to your vehicle."

I guess it is time for a lawyer.

Time to take a party to court over allowing another party, who might have been impaired, to drive their vehicle with or without their knowledge/permission (how did this driver get access to the car keys?)

Rear-ended TE

My Wife was rear-ended by a jacked up F-250 in my '10 TE. It looks pretty nasty. I don't know if you can see it in the pics, but the body between the rear door and the tailgate is creased. I am starting to hope it is totalled because it will probably never be the same.

And the worst part about it is that I just got my Overland Warehouse lift in the mail on Thursday. I was planning on installing it tonight.

She is O.K. She is at prompt care getting checked out now, but everything seems fine. The Ford Driver was a teenage girl that admitted fault as soon as she got out of the truck. As far as new car replacement, I am not sure. It's impossible to get in contact with anyone on the weekend.

Thanks for that thread, it will be a lot of help. My wife does have a sprained neck. We are just glad she didn't have the baby with her when it happened. The impact was hard enough to open the sunroof cover and pop the nav screen out.

That's sad to see. I had a rear end collision like that 20 years ago and I still feel it. I broke the driver's seat so that may be something to check out.
If it were me I might harvest a few parts like the rear emblem before ins adjustment. IMO, it already looks like it's ready to fall off. just saying. Also see if you can get the shop to give you some of the plastic parts that will be replaced.

the good news, it wasn't my 4Runner and no one was injured. The bad news, my daily driver is out of commission and my wallet is about to take a beating. My 1996 Passat TDI gets ~40mpg and has 325,000 miles. I commute 100 miles per day. I'll be spending the next few weeks getting used parts and putting this thing back together.

I rear ended a Sequoia. No damage to the Sequoia at all. I must have just nailed it's hitch. if you look at the pic you can see a square hole in the VW bumper. the rest of the car just crumpled.

They totaled my 08 last year with similar damage, but maybe a bit more excessive, to your '10. And my '08 was appraised for what I paid for it basically. The frame was bent pretty heavily, so that was probably they key to getting it totaled. So I'd check your frame and see if there's any damage.

It is in the shop being torn down right now. It looks like the damage is mostly above the frame. Thanks for the advice. It's hard for me to decide whether I want it totalled or not.

Yeah.. I know what you mean. I miss my old 4R, but I don't think, with the amount of damage that happed, I would have been happy to have it back.

It pretty much negates the reason I bought a 4runner. After the accident, I looked up the NADA value and it was still worth more than I paid for it, so it probably won't be totalled and I will be stuck with it.

If you have it fixed at a reputable shop by a good tech, there is no reason to worry about having problems down the road with it. To put it bluntly, most people are scared of driving a car that has been in an accident because of ignorance. They hear a horror story or two about a car that was fixed and think that no car will be the same after a repair. People don't realize that there a lot of good technicians that take a lot of pride in their work to make sure a car is safe, and the repair is invisible. Any tech that knows the definition of the word liability will make sure of that.

Yeah,I understand that. Unfortunately, most people don't. I am not worried about driving it as much as I am bugged that a vehicle that should be worth around $40,000 is not worth anywhere near that now because no one want to buy a car that has been in an accident.-at least not for the same price as an un-wrecked car. I have also had three vehicles that have been wrecked (by others) and repaired, and they have all had issues afterwards.
