Orderd a 5th Gen, what is the expected wait?

bradj...what is your search method that allows you cover such a broad territory? Saw a ref to lemonfree.com and that was pretty good.

Google maps.... lol

I just run a search on say Austin TX Toyota which then brings up the toyota dealerships in that area. Each dealers website is linked on each pushpin on the map. I just open the link on the pushpin and search inventory. It only takes about 20 secs per dealership to see whats instock.

When I was trying to find one I did this each day in my area and could find stuff my dealer missed

It would be great if there was public access to a more streamlined search such as what the dealer uses. They could mask info that they don't want released. Especially frustrating is the lack of complete and accurate info on the dealer inventory description. I found option details missing (eg NAV, 3rd row seating), listing ext/int colors that no longer exist for a particular model and not specifying SR5, TE, LE. So, we do the best we can.

Gulf States Toyota Distribution had a good tool to show what was available in my region but their website isn't working right now. Its a direct link through the build tool on the toyota website. There are 155 toyota dealers in my region though so It took some searching to find who had what.

SeattleMike...I might be able to swing a plane ticket to Hawaii but a ferry back across the Pacific could be pricey. If Toyota would have kept those two on the ship until they reached CA they would have been sold already.

Giving up on searching for a 4x4 red/black leather 3rd row? I've kept my eyes open for one but still haven't seen that combo in the GST. You are probably better off ordering one. Good luck.

Finally!!!

Last week my dealer called and said the Salsa red we ordered was in the port!! So, last finally I got the call indicating that the runner had arrived to the dealer and I went to pick it up.

This was so cool...4 mi on the odometer. The best part is that it was pretty much exactly what I ordered plus a bit more.

-Salsa Red Pearl
-Black interior (no leather)
-Third row seat

+ few other options they threw in there. I think we got a sweet deal given the prices I have seen here and obtain 2 years of free maintenance service. The only hassle was to wait for ~ 3.5 months!..but it was totally worth the wait. The dealer was pretty excited to see this car. In fact when I arrived at the dealer, several other employees said: "are you the one that special ordered that 4x4 4runner ... its sweet we do not have any other one like that around here"
My dealer said it really was specially built..and that they had nothing with those options in the lot, and nothing similar coming in any time soon. In fact they still have no salsa reds on the lot when I looked..and maybe 1 4x4 SR5

Any how..the 4runner feels like a tank ....its solid.....

Q: Any tips on maximum speed limits on the first few hundred miles???? is that still a good practice??

I ordered near the middle of January so I guess technically it has been a little over 3 months to receive the car.

I know its tough to wait....but its worth it because it really seems like they specially built the car to your specs. If you think about it, its pretty darn impressive that in a matter of months you can obtain a car (from Japan) that started with your request..then moved to a bunch of ones and zeros on a computer somewhere ..and that was translated to some robots in some gigantic industrial complex and ended up in my drive way....


Not to make you feel bad or make fun (seriously) but it is just highly unlikely that they re-designed the wheels...as I mentioned, its a predefined industrial process that requires major re-tooling and factory configuration changes for something like that to happen....so your dealer should have not told you that....but you should just ask him based on the Toyota sales region you are in, how long he expects for your order to arrive.

the other thing you can insist on is that they (your dealer), shows you or indicates some how that the Toyota manufacturing plant has acknowledged and received the order and said that in fact they will make it for you.

Once the order is received, I have read elsewhere, that the Toyota plant production cycle is like ~ 3 months. so if you are lucky and get in at the cut off for that cycle it may take just a month or even a few weeks to get in.

thanks for the response. wait is indeed very tough while good weather goes by and i could be working on the 4runner...yes the wheel redesign would be a big long engineering process, just scratching my head why they would say such a thing...now i hope to take delivery when/if there is an incentive during the next few months

I finally ordered mine yesterday Limited Blizzard Pearl with 3rd row. I ordered through a "broker" rather than a dealer, so I'm waiting to see how long it will take to get the car. I have not seen a 3rd row 4runner in the New York area, so this may be a special order.

just a follow up. I was expecting to wait at least 2 0r 3 months for my 4runner. I specifically wanted a Ltd Blizzard Pearl with Beige interior, nav and 3rd row. Every where I went said it would be up to 3 months and said they couldn't locate one in the computer inventories. I happen to live with short distance (20 miles) of about 10 dealers and every so often I would visit one in the evening just to see the trucks, colors, etc. I pulled into one dealer at night and there it was. It haden't been there when I called a week before. I drove out with it that night. Another thing I discovered. You'll never get as good a price as you'll get when the car is in stock because this dealer almost gave it away, I felt. No other dealer I negotiated with was willing to give me the price that I got when the Runner is sitting on the lot and they want to make room. So, my advice, visit and re-visit dealers, they don't always call back, and go with a checkbook to save lots of cash.

Congrats! I agree about negotiating for what is on the lot, I got what I feel is a very good deal that way as well. I bought my SR5 about a month ago when it was the only 4Runner on the lot and I don't think it was moving, it was loaded with options I normally would not have ordered but they matched the price of another dealer for a lesser model.

Just this week I went back to the dealer to pick something up and I see they have four new 4runners on the lot, and one was a blizzard pearl Limited w. beige interior (this is in Kingston, NY - the other 3 are: Black Limited, Salsa red SR5, and Blizzard SR5). So I guess the market is moving due to spring buying and they decided to get more 4Runners in. I hope to see more 2010s on the road around here, I've yet to see one other than my own!

let me get this straight.
you got a limited with nav and 3rd row just by going back to dealer? That makes me so angry, because i ordered the exact options you described about 2 months ago, and dealer telling me it wont be here till july...that should of been mine...no offense..but happy you got yours...the dealer is supposed to check system inventory and he said if there was one out there at anytime they could make a dealer swap...i live in pa..you live in NY...its the same region
