Painting a hood...I humbly ask for opinions.

I got a sport hood and I have my truck that is sunfire. Beautiful color and I'm planning on restoring the whole truck but I'm leaning towards the hood being black. I'm already painting the mirrors, door handles, and gas tank filler cover. So I just want some opinions, +1 rep for the best argument

Also if anyone has a picture of the black hood on the sunfire red? Thanks guys!

i would say leave hood original color but paint the scoop a different color.

i did the scoop insert to match my gray cladding.

IMO I'm not really a fan of the hood being a different colour on a truck makes it look wrecked, also reminds me of the ricer Honda civics.

I would do the sunfire red.

I agree, body panels of different colors looks like you're driving around a wreck that you went to the junkyard and got whatever parts you could find just to make it drivable. Paint it correctly.
I also agree a black hood would look like a ricer wanna be.

Yeah that's what I planned on doing, but I was thinking that the roof lights will give off a huge glare. The bed liner is a dull paint, but I also enjoy the nice reflections of a freshly waxed hood. Hmm.

Black hood on different color 4runner always looks wrecked like stated above. Dont do it. Different when on imports or euro cars. Just doesnt fit our trucks right.

How about both? You can do a flat black like I have, and red on the rest. A bit more work, but not by much. I was thinking of doing mine this way when I finally get one.

There's a Tacoma that comes through where I work fairly frequently that has a two tone paint job. It's one of the few two tone Toyotas I actually like. The hood is one color and that same color reaches over the tops of the fenders and everything above that line including the roof and the pillars is that color. Red and Black two tone would make for a good combo, but I've never seen it on a 4runner. I would photoshop some pics to see how you feel about the black hood or any other two tone combos.

Well I did Mine all black, I think it looks pretty good!

Not sure I would use bedliner though, that can look kind of ugly it's so think and grainy. Either flat vinyl or flat paint if you want anti-glare black.

Pretty sure Dylan [MENTION=9139]steezemcqueen[/MENTION] is running a black sport hood on his sunfire 3rd gen. I know all these people are talking about it looking like you are driving a wrecked truck, did they miss the fact that you have been driving around with a 4x4 as a front bumper for the last month or so? lol.

If the hood gets a fresh paint job its not going to match the 15 year old paint on the rest of the truck very well.

I think it looks good black as long as you have the right accents to go along with it. Really though I would just do what your true gut feeling is, because at the end of the day you still are the one driving it.

Unless you do some accent work, to me it just looks...unfinished...

What millerad has looks intentional, but just solid black on a red truck looks to me like it got hit and you haven't gotten around to painting it yet. Reminds me of high school where we kept seeing this old black 80s firebird with a brown driver side door.

HA! As soon as I saw this thread I though of your build, I was skimming through comments and was going to suggest that if OP does paint it black not to use bed liner as the texture would look like crap but instead go with a flat black to reduce glare like SCRunner12 did!

I think SC's turned out great mainly for the functionality but you can't go wrong with keeping the truck painted all one colour. Guess I'm luck my truck is black!

Thanks for the comments, I was a bit nervous at first about it, but I like the look now. Like I said all the same color does look more complete and cleaner, but the black really doesn't look bad with the red as apposed to other colors. I wouldn't have done it to mine if I didn't have all my clear coat missing. I really like the plasti-dip on it though because it's not shiny, but not a complete flat black. Just enough shine for my taste.

Ya I was happy with the turnout of the plasti dip. I didn't figure it would last, but it still looks the same almost 2 years later. I'll probably use the same stuff on a sport hood when the time comes.

I personally like the idea of it matched. I like the overall look when the flares, grille and bumpers are matched too. But it's definitely a personal preference and you gotta do what's going to make you happy!

I saw a Ford ranger in the home depot parking lot with a black plastidipped hood. His looked terrible. Glossy in some spots, satin in others, flat in others, and starting to peel. I'm guessing he didn't apply it properly, or he bought an off brand or both.

That's probably both true statements haha. Somepeople don't have the patience for painting and just quickly spray it on there.
