Panhard bar question

My bad. I sounded like a complete dick. I figured you just didn't read anything. Now I realize there is a whole lot of crap to read through to get the right answers.
The panhard correction kit in the post above corrects the angle of the panhard bar at ride height, therefore reducing the side to side sway as the rear suspension cycles. It also helps reduce body roll more than just a regular drop bracket by raising the axle side bracket too (increasing roll center height). The only thing that the adjustable panhard bar is good for is re-centering the axle, not correcting anything else. The PHC kit actually brings the axle back to center by leveling the panhard bar at ride height like it was supposed to be from the factory. Order the kit, it will be worth the investment.

I appreciate the help...I was just trying to wade through all the extra stuff. I think that's what I'm going to do, and shorten up my adjustable panhard bar.

good afternoon. i've read probably 85% of the thread but this is probably the most direct answer. thank you. and honestly there was a bunch that was over my head. one question. this does not require the adjustable panhard, it uses the stock one correct? but could work with either?

thank you!

If you use his lift and drop brackets it should be pretty aligned with using the stock panhard. If you slightly off I guess you could get the panhard to adjust it perfect but from what members said it pretty much aligned the axle back to center.

I installed my Kit from Keith last month, 3" lift stock bar. Side to side is 3/32" difference, alignment with latest and greatest Hunter machine showed perfect.

Hey guys, I've got some kits ready to go at the moment; can ship upon payment (several going out today, in fact!) - Let me know if you need one.

check link in my signature, or just PM me your name, shipping address and email.

Results will vary if you don't install kit precisely. I used a digital protractor to insure that holes in PCK brackets were dead on with factory holes on the vertical axis. The installer has to do their part.

I like the Clinometer App on iPhone for that kind of thing - use it all the time at work.

Oh yea iPhone good for all kinds of chit. Have had the digital protractor for years it's cheaper to replace than the phone. :thumb

I installed my panhard correction kit from eimkeith on my 2000 4Runner. I just want to compliment him on such an excellent design. It's obviously well designed and a perfect fit, which made it easy to weld into place.

I've been saying for many years how it's theoretically best to keep the center point of the panhard bar as high as possible, so it's important to raise at least the axle end of the panhard bar. I didn't previously install a panhard correction kit because all that was available was to lower the frame end, which would flatten the angle, but would worsen the leverage of the body from the midpoint across the panhard bar. I installed both ends of the eimkeith kit and love it. I noticed a change in the ride after the first bump I went over. I wish this was available 15 years ago.

I already had the extended bump stops, so I don't have a concern about the axle end hitting when articulating.

Here's a pic.

The change in ride for me was night and day. I used to feel the ass end hop on every washboard road. It was annoying to say the least. Since installing the PCK I have zero hopping. I've said it more than once but it's hands down the best way to fix panhard angle and length because it does both. It does it for less then any other option out there. What's not to like?

I'm thinking it might also slightly improve axle articulation (wheel travel) when off-road because it would relieve stress within all the 5 links. I haven't tested that thought yet, but there's enough twisting of bushings and links in tension or compression within all of the 5 links that it would make sense that it should reduce at least some of the stress. All the links are constantly fighting against each other anyway since they are different lengths and only 3 points should determine where the axle really wants to go.

Swapping out the stock panhard bushing for polys will also allow more articulation since the oem bushings bind up.

When you lift and/or install new bushings, you should actually loosen your control arm bolts until you have the truck back on tires and sitting at ride height, then set the torque on the bolts as to prevent the bushing from possibly binding up and getting torn up... Even with poly.

But stock rubber bushings flex more than enough that you won't get binding from the bushing itself... If anything they will just tear if preloaded from lifting and extra articulation...

Gave my 96 some TLC last week with a bunch of bushings, all the bushings every last one, LBJ's, SPC UCA's up'd 1 notch on 5100's, Rear CA bushings, installed PCK. Took it for a ride yesterday 20 miles or so on trails I've hit for 10-12 yrs. Interstate to get there about 60 miles worth.
The PCK is well worth it!! Runner handles, flex's, highway manners are fantastic compared to just the adjustable Panhard. Keeping in mind the bushing changes, the rearend stays planted to the ground damn good. No more butt scooting when I hit seams in highway. Flexing on trails/ride is night day different with PCK. Thanks EimKeith

The SS Adj Panhard bar adjusted to fit also.

Yes that will cause them to bind up your right.

But if you have 7 wraps or larger at full articulation the panhard can hold up 1-1.5" of articulation due to the bushings binding. SS has tested this and proven it. I also saw a 4th gen member stating the panhard polys gained 1.5" articulation.

Once you get everything poly out back it all moves freely. Even enlarging the eye bolt hole for the upper rear shock when running LC tokicos will let you gain some articulation.
