Pics of driver and front passenger windows at 35% tint, rest stock

I'm trying to determine if it's worthwhile to tint to 35%, which is the legal limit in the state of MD for the driver and front passenger windows.

It looks like 20% would match nicely with the rear (looks great!), but I don't want to give Troopers any reasons to pull me over.

I really doubt you will catch any grief for the 20% here in MD. Mybe if you had it on a turbo Civic buzzbomb that got pulled over for speeding. A 4runner with a responsible adult driving- they look the other way. I've been pulled over(no front tag) and the officer didn't say a word. Still have my tag off BTW- I'm a little hard-headed :redbrick:

I have the 20%. Got it done at D&L Window tinting on Rt 40 in Whitemarsh. They do it in literally 15 minutes. IMO- 35% really isn't worth it. Here's mine at 20%. Hopefully someone will post a 35% so you can compare easily! Good luck.

I'm a LEO in MD and I don't really enforce the tint unless you are already giving me another reason to pull you over or if you have like 5-10% and I can't see anything at all inside the vehicle, even when I'm standing next to it. I also stop people for having the entire windshield tinted. Now that Equipment Repair Orders can be printed from the car and we no longer have to hand write them, you may see an increase in repair orders being issued.

Just had my front windows and a strip on my windshield tinted today at 20%. I have a friend that does tint in Glen Burnie MD.

Will get better pics when I give her a bath.

Antman, your 4Runner looks great! Glad to hear that D&L does a good job. I live in Joppa, so they're on my list of possible installers. What kind of tint did they use, and how much did they charge? Thanks...

I have used D&L for 4 vehicles now. They have the patterns on a computer with a cutter/plotter machine. It cuts the film to the exact shape and they tag team it with 2 guys. Done! They started my truck, and I was talking to a guy in the waiting room. The installer came back in and handed me my keys. I said "Uh oh- what's wrong?". He just smiled and said "We're all finished sir- check it out!". Pretty cool!

They have 3M film, and their own brand Solar Guard. I have used the Solar Guard on all my vehicles with no bubbling, or turning purple. I really don't remember what it cost- maybe around $100 or so?

They also offer 3M vinyl wraps in colors and patterns if you want to

I work in a high crime/drug area. Our main focus is not equipment violations but rather to reduce actual CRIME in the area. I don't believe someone should have to go through the cost/hassle of removing the tint or paying a citation because they want to protect the interior of their vehicle from sun damage and heat. As I said before, I HAVE stopped people for window tint but usually as a reason to investigate something else that may be going on with the driver/vehicle.

So if I'm lazy for focusing on stopping crime and drug activity and rarely enforcing minor equipment violations then so be it. We're not even talking about MOVING violations here (such as speeding or obeying traffic control devices) where there could be a danger to life and/or property. Would you rather have less drug dealers/violent felons on the street in the same areas your family/friends may frequent or less law abiding, tax paying citizens with dark window tint?

Right...because I'm sure you NEVER drive a single MPH over the speed limit or have never done a "rolling stop" at a stop sign. Maybe you should take a look in the mirror before questioning the integrity of another officer.

I was simply looking to answer the OP's question about what percentage matches the rear tint as well as offer a little inside info about what an actual officer thinks about window tint. As well as offer a warning that while it may not be enforced often, it is still enforced. If my professional opinion isn't welcome then I will be sure to keep it to myself next time.

What exactly could be covered with the colored (black) wraps? I'd love to trim my 4R out in Trail Edition-like matte black on the door handles, roof rails, and grille. It would have to be a reliable and durable product though.

I`m not saying you are a bad person or LEO for having window tint, I just think you should practice what you preach. You said that you stopped people for dark tint, but when you get off work, you get in your POV and drive around violating the same law. Even if I wasnt a LEO, I would have a problem with it.

As a LEO, I try to hold myself to a higher standard. If I happened to speed and get stopped for it, then I man up and take responsibility for my actions. I would find it embarrassing as hell if I did get pulled over for something that I had total control of, and can do something about, such as equipment issues.

I have stopped many off duty police officers for different reasons. Most of them knew that they where violating the law and EXPECTED a break because they were a police officer. I have arrested several officers for doing things that they shouldnt have been doing and knew better.

Glad to see someone actually got the intended message of my post instead of ignoring the message and jumping to the conclusion that I'm a "dirty", lazy, hypocritical, cop of questionable integrity. Oh well. Nothing I don't hear on a day to day basis with the fine citizens I come in contact with on a regular basis.

It is a great product. Many on here have used it- everything from hoods to hatches to grills, to entire vehicles!

Looks pretty good, but also appears to be very pricey. If I went this route, I'd be blacking out a lot (grill, rails, handles, rear emblem, trims etc) which would be a heavy financial commitment. It takes a back seat to my HD Road King plans :naughty:
