Pioneer 8100-NEX Navigatioion Group buy

I am looking to gauge interest of an after market Navigation group

The model - Pioneer 8100NEX Navigation unit

The website - Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, Pro Audio, 4k TV


The deal - Don't know yet. I do know that they have shown interest. I called a couple of times and finally spoke to someone who said it's possible depending on the interest.

Let's see how many are interested.

This is last year's model, the new model is 8200-NEX. Just to be clear.

I have been eyeing this myself for a while and now it's getting discounted plus whatever Crutchfield will agree to.

Crutchfield is definitely the way to go when buying electronics online. Great customer service, warranties, licensed dealers, etc.. I'm guessing that's who the GB would be through?

Correct, it would be through Crutchfield.

Last time I spoke with them, they had about 500 units in stock. Considering they are not flying off the shelf. It might be worth while to wait another few weeks for the price to drop more and than request a group buy discount.

Will keep everyone posted. I will reach out to them by Friday once we have a closer gauge of interest.

Thanks for your feedback, 33 4 star reviews is enough for me to give it a try. Thats why I want to buy from Crutchfield and not a mom n pop shop.

exactly what im talking about...the "educated consumer"

mom, pop, uncle, cousin, brother and sister all will tell you they suck. if its on the internet, it must be true LOL

-being in business since 1978 doesnt mean anything.
-being a top 10 retailer doesnt mean anything
-having 3 ferrari's in the shop now, not including the 2 that left this morning and not including the one tech at the dealership doing a install now, doent mean anything.
-working on cars many shops will not touch doesnt mean anything either.
-having the best talent in the city deosnt mean anything

but what do i know, i'm working with mom and pop

BTW- i'm not trying to rain on your parade. I honestly dont want others to go thru the problems we went thru this past year with the NEX products.

i was just looking thru our sales numbers to take some real life sales numbers for you just for comparison.

defectives are only listed if we by chance got approval to swap it out and replace it for a customer. otherwise they were SOL, and had to wait for it to go back for service/repair AT PIONEER's discretion. so there were 4 more of this model that went back for repair and wasnt swapped out.





in comparison to the amount of kenwood vs pionner, you can see the return rate 12.5% (37.5% included the units that didnt get swapped out) is really high!!

unfortunately my own informed internet customer knowledge points to major software defects in these, but thanks for the efforts anyway.

Those who like manufacture warranties, additional warranty options, and good customer support.

A lot of you guys forget that just b/c Amazon or Ebay has items for much cheaper doesn't mean you're getting a good deal. Those kind of places are not licensed dealers. I never buy any electronics from Amazon, unless it's something simple that I never worry about the manufacture warranty or returning if it dies.

As for the pioneer vs everything else. Pioneer makes a solid unit. Some have been hit or miss over the years. The avic line has it's glitches but they're pretty good about doing updates. Haven't done any research on them in a while, so I couldn't tell you much. I'll agree that Alpine and Kenwood have exceptional products. My first ever aftermarket radio was a Kenwood and I loved it. I currently have a Kenwood single din now.

Pioneer is actually REALLY REALLY BAD about updates. better than alpine, they just blatantly ignore that there is a problem lol. Kenwood is by far the best with updates and customer service.

Avic line has always been plagued with problems.

avic-n series ribbon cable issues and motorization issues
avic-d series same as above
avic-z series hard drive crashing issues
newer avic z 110/120/130 series slow as fkc and crashes. apps never worked right
avic-f series sd card crashing issues
avic-nex series crash, crash, crash. then no car play, no ipod...send out for warranty.

its only 1 year warranty also, so you SOL every year. kenwood excelon is two, thats why you get continued support well after the sale.

ebay, amazon and other online retailers like SONIC ELECTRONICS are NOT authorized outets for purchases from kenwood and alpine. so getting it from them is a huge risk to take for a expensive item. crutchfield on the other hand is a good online retail that adheres to map policy and offers great customer service. they are the few authorized online retailers.

It's been so long since I've done any research on them, I've been out of the loop. Good to know though. I haven't splurged for a double din nav unit in a while. Had a nice but older Kenwood in my Honda that I sold. Wishing I would have kept the unit. Oh well, maybe I'll start looking at the Excelon series. I'd love to have a nav unit in the 4Runner. I'd just have to replace or find a new place for my CB as it's under my single din.
