Receiving text/e-mail "on screen" via entune

Strangest thing happened one day last week on my commute home. I received all emails and text messages from my iphone . I did not do anything different. It just worked that one evening and I haven't been able to get emails again since. Text msg are coming across fine.

Same happened to me on my 4s. I have been trying ever since to figure it out. Anyone?

Having an issue with my texts that is driving me nuts. The short description is that I get the "New Text Message" notification on the screen, but no sound.

The longer description:
Truck is a 2013, obviously with Entune.

Phone is an iPhone 5S, latest IOS

When I bought the truck 2 weeks ago, I paired the phone and when a new text came in, I got both the on screen pop-up and a sound. Somewhere since then, the sound stopped. I suspect it was when I loaded the latest Entune update, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I've searched, but every post I find related to a text issue is for no notifications at all, which is not the problem I have.

I've tried deleting and re-pairing the phone several times, no change. I've toggled the "show notifications" on the phone and the text message pop-up option in the truck, no change either.

Does anyone else have the latest Entune update loaded and still getting sound alerts for new texts?

Did some more searching and messed with this a little more today. I found that if I unpair the phone for music, and leave it paired for phone only, the phone will play an alert when I get a text. The stereo still doesn't, but at least I can hear the phone this way.

The problem with this is that every time the phone re-connects, it automatically pairs for both phone and music....so that workaround is pretty useless.

Also, calling Toyota was just as useless, but I expected that.

The funny thing about all this is that I typically won't even have the stereo read me the text...I just want to know that I got one so I remember to look at it when I get out of the truck.

Just came to the forum to find this very issue.
My LE has not been able to display messages for a while. It did when new, but I suspect not since the latest Entune upgrade.
When I select the "messages" app, it asks me if I want to set up my phone. Every time. Even when you go through the process it does not list any messages.
iPhone 6 with IOS 8 and now 9.

I lost the message function after upgrading to iOS9, and now 9.02 but have since got it back. The download to 9 had a 'hiccup' the first time and had to be redone (thank jeeazus for the cloud).

Getting messages to play with a selected tone and to be read aloud again took some trial and error (be sure messages are closed, or off, on you're phone if you are testing it inside the truck) but one thing that helped was to go into settings/bluetooth/Toyota4Runner then hit the info button. Then be sure "show notifications" is turned on. I think the default is set to off.

Also be sure your 'send & receive' source in settings/messages is set to your cell number, not an email.

I have never been able to receive emails, either before or now, but it's probably better not to be bothered by email while driving anyway.
Hope this helps; it sure could be less fussy.

I do not get any text messages or emails from my Android phone (HTC One M8) and have tried clearing all messages and deleting/re-pairing devices.

Do text messages work for anyone with an Android device? If so, what device are you using? This is a big pain in the ass, I'm willing to buy a new device if people are having luck with it.

(i don't care about emails, i have no interest in them working)

I have a Turbo2. Once the phone is paired and I see/hear from the phone I have a text I can press the Apps button, then messages and get them. A "retrieving messages" will come up, then puts them in a list and once chosen will be "read" by the synthetic voice after you hit the "play" button on the bottom left by the phone icon. Otherwise, you have to be stationary to read them. I haven't really messed a lot with adjustments on the phone or Entune but just play around with it find new stuff periodically so not at the moment if anything on the phone has to be set specific. Guess all this is somewhere in the Entune manual but who reads that?! :rtfm:

Prior to upgrading from a Gzone Commando it wouldn't work - message said something like "device is not compatible" or similar so if it's an older phone maybe that's it...

I have a Galaxy note 3 and the text message do work for me. The email is more fussy. If I have my email open on either my work or yahoo it will pop up new email... only if I open my mail while in the truck.. odd

Even though the m8 has MAP , it isn't compatible with entune. There is a pdf somewhere of every compatible phone out there and the m8 isn't text or email compatible.

Can you provide a link? The only chart I've seen is just what had been tested by Toyota, not what is compatible

Edit: The website says that it hasn't been tested, and there is no PDF for 2016, but it is not compatible with texts for 2015 models and Entune should be the same build. At least I know it isn't a phone issue and I can stop messing with it, I'll just be sure to check compatibility when its time for a new phone
