Removed Roof Rack from TE

After seeing the picture and description of the "goodies" that came with your 4Runner Trail Editions, I am wondering if I got everything I was supposed to get with my vehicle. I didn't know about the mini tie-downs until I saw this. If my 2011 4Runner TE came with the rack and cross bars, was I supposed to get the mini tie-downs as well or were these an added option? Is there anybody else that didn't get these? As many of you that can reply to this as possible will help in determining if I have recourse.

They were included in the rails' parts bag, according to the install sheet. I had the sheet in the glovebox with the install instructions.
 
will the bolts with the washers suffice alone? or do they need RTV or something else to help keep the holes watertight?
 
Doesn't look like it and I didn't want to find out. I used Marine Goop as I had it laying around.
I would hate to have a water stain on my headliner over 50 cents worth of adhesive.
 
I was able to get the dealership to give me the parts, no charge, that are necessary for the rack removal (bolts and covers). I told them it was supposed to come with my TE (which i bought 9 months ago), and they looked into it, and said OK.

I'll be picking them up today, and stopping by the auto parts store to get some sealant. Not sure the best thing to get. I'll probably go with silicpne.

#1. My GF said it made the 4R look like a station wagon and we couldn't have that.:wink2:
#2. I liked hodge-podge 5 piece molding/covers underneath less than the rack.
I used marine goop to assure the bolts were watertight.
I also cleaned and waxed the area underneath the rack before re-installing.
Haven't put on the crossbars yet. We'll see.

The bolts I had on had were 12mm (1/2") long and they didn't touch the threads.

Final thought, I wouldn't recommend taking off the rack for fun.

any other thoughts on why you wouldnt take it off? any issues putting it back? seems pretty simple.
 
crap, so i decided to not take it oof midway, and it seems i am screwed. I cant get teh bolts to go back in.....any thoughts?

So I pulled the headliner and there is no nut for one of the bolts! How is this possible? The white plastic piece broke. Could that be all that was holding the one bolt. I can see the other nut is there.

anyone???? is it possible that there was no nut there for one of the bolts in the first place? can i just replace it with a stainless nut from homedepot?

Sure. I would take the bolt with you though. Make sure you use some type of sealant and get a partner to hold the nut while you tighten it from the top and you should be fine.

thank you. I have it with me now (4runner in the garage in case of rain). I have some clear silicone i will be putting down. Should i get a rubber washer for inside as well?
