Well done, sir. That looks really good. I will be referencing the hell out that thread. Any regrets or do-overs you would share that aren't in the thread? It sounds like the fairing really gave a you a hard time relatively speaking. I wonder if I might just buy a fairing so long as it is wide enough.
Do the bent bars have any perks other than looks?
1- If I could do it again I would have welding the floor in at the same time, just have to grind the coating off in a few places and weld the mesh in then recoating it, I just didn't feel like spending money on the extruded sheet then.
2- I wish I would have bought all my lights(one 32'' in the front, 2- 8" in the back, and a 12" on each side) and made brackets for them at the same time. but I didn't feel like dropping around $700 on lights then, and still don't, that's why I still don't have lights haha.
the fairing took so long because I was trying to make it so I could run my light under it and not on top, but gave in and just did the normal fairing and I will run my light on top like everyone else. and I thought about just buying a fairing and thought what if it doesn't work because its not designed to work with my rack.
if you are talking about the front corners(bent bars) I did them just for the looks.
if I make another rack, which im thinking of making a flat utility rack, ill have all the corners squared off.
a friend of a friend has a fabrication shop and he said if I give him plans he could pump out all the pieces for me and I could weld them together, but hes talking like making 20-30 racks and selling them, not sure if I want to get into the roof rack biz haha.
Factory bracket photo. Aluminum or steel?
cover is plastic, bar and mount are aluminum. I thought about using the factory mounts but the aluminum shut me down.
