So it looks like the CTHome T9 head unit is out, waiting for reviews.

With an ATT SIM installed, I get....H+ speeds I'm not sure if this is ATT being jerks with the broadband APN and not being a known IMEI (they default unknown IMEIs to HSPDA instead of 4G) or if it's a band issue, but it's enough for things like spotify and maps to work.

I do infosec for a living so I have a dedicated gmail account assigned to this unit and I'll be digging into it (and watching its network traffic) over the next few weeks.

- You could use a band scanner app to see what the tablets is able to see. Check it against bands/speeds att uses. Did this for my att V20 phone when I put a tmo sim in it.

- Please keep us updated on what you are seeing with your packet sniffer app. Hope peoples data isn't being sent to some foreign server for collection.

I've been playing around with it a bit more tonight. I for sure do not have LTE bands showing up on my unit. My phone is LTE, but even looking at a band scanner I have HSPDA+ only. Meh, still good enough.

This is the whine I was talking about YouTube The seller wants me to send them pictures of the wiring, they are thinking it might be related but that seems like a stretch to me, but they've been very responsive and nice so I'll play ball.

I'm going to start a new thread shortly documenting the stuff in "Extra Settings" as it's not super intuitive (panel follow = backlight off the soft keys?) so look for that soon-ish . I'll also take the opportunity to make a little install video since i have to remove it to take pictures anyway.

Lastly I have given it a static DHCP reservation on my network and fired up netsniff-ng looking for anything to or from the device. I'll let you know what I find.

There is nothing to the install. It is super easy. The unit is plug and play.

Received the T9 yesterday. Tried the T8 which was ok but not quite there for me and had returned it. There are two problematic plugs to get connected into the head unit; they didn't design a large enough opening on the back of the head unit panel to accommodate retention clips on the two harness plugs. It was a beast to get them in. Again, ZERO instructions and the diagram sticker on the head unit isn't for the T9. Anyone can figure it out, but it adds time and frustration. The T9 feels more snappy than the T8 and music over Bluetooth is seemingly better. The issue I have now is Wifi, Bluetooth tether, and SIM data are all gimped or broken on my unit. Bluetooth has ~0.35 Mbps down/upload. SIM I can't recall exactly but was similar. Wifi was down 15 Mbps and 0.00 Mbps upload (or simply error out), making it totally unusable. Data was much better on the T8 I had tried so I'm hoping this can be resolved. If they can fix it (e.g. point out a setting to change) or send me a better unit then I think I'll stay with the T9.

Confirmed I saw android 8.1 but connectivity is so borked I can't be bothered to download cpuz right now for other specs.

edit: I didn't test Android Auto because I didn't see it installed. I'll explore that if I get the connectivity sorted.

Update: They're going to send out a new unit. If anything customer service is consistently accessible and reasonable.

Finally received my replacement unit August 31st, and what do you know, ran into more problems. The steering wheel controls did not function and was unable to see my own wifi router this time. Sent back for refund. I'm out.

The screen is making a terrible high pitched whine. It sounds like an inverter coil being overdriven, I've reached out to the vendor I bought it from on Amazon to see what they suggest. It's easy enough to block it out with music playing but it doesn't matter if the engine is running or not, the sound is coming directly from the screen.

I have the same issue above with my T9 unit, and just email the seller to replace it.

My unit arrived today. I ordered from Rhino Radios because at that moment it was cheaper than Car Trim but Car Trim recently dropped in price. I chose the free USB carplay/Android auto dongle although I have no intention of using either.

There's some extra wires that are going to take me some time to figure out. I know for a fact that some will put out 12v in certain conditions so I need to get those secured before install. They are trigger wires for various cameras and amp stuff. Unit did come with an external mic despite what the person told me in an earlier post. There was a protective plastic wrapped around main housing that I removed. Easy to miss as it wasn't on all sides. Going to cut the zip ties on the harness and reorganize the wires as they aren't super neat at the moment.

I'll add some additional info after install. I did purchase some dupli color black sand pearl and a high gloss clear coat as I plan on painting the facia to match my interior trim after unit is tested.

Does anyone know what the wiring differences are between 10-13 and later years? I feel like there couldn't be a huge change. It could be as simple as a repining of the harness or a cut and splice. We could possibly compare wiring diagrams between the models, have a few users take photos of their in dash wiring, then compare notes pin for pin.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but does this HU simply have a SIM slot or do you need some other kind of adapter to get it to register 4G? Any luck with it since your posting - or is the HSPDA+ working fine?
