If it helps anyone here's a couple pics from when I did mine. When the panel comes off there will be a black plastic tub attached to the panel on the inside. If I recall there are some a few heat staked connections you can cut with a razor and off it comes.

Yeah, the door locks into the tan panel and not the black plastic tub at all.

Yup, happens all the time in the SF bay area. You really need to just build a carpeted cargo box if you plan to leave anything of value in your truck.
