Supreme Court Strikes Down Defense of Marriage Act as Unconstitutional

I could care less, if a man wants to marry another man, or if a women wants to marry a women, this IMHO is the biggest waist of time, meanwhile thousands more of Illegals are coming into our country every month killing Americans :noidea:

Smoke and mirrors... anyone watching the economy while some are worried about Joe marrying James?

It's a wicked blow to States rights for sure, but the precedent that the Fed can supercede a local vote was well established when the North won the Civil War :).

You guys don't know what you are talking about. It is not a blow to states rights.

If you read what the court published they overturned a federal law because it discriminated against one class of people.

They decided not to rule on the validity of state marriage laws (eg Prop 8) and therefore each state can still decide on its own how it wants to treat straight or gay couples. State courts and Federal courts can still rule on individual laws but there is no blanket high Court precedent which would have affected all states.

Meaning in UT the people AND courts of UT decide. In CA the people AND courts of CA decide.

The states get to choose their own fate. That is not a blow against states rights. Gay marriage is still illegal in UT but the federal government will recognize those marriages.

So what's next? Equality for those who practice bestiality and pedophilia?

Maybe you should get a room with the genius from the other thread who thinks it should be legal to kill an illegal immigrant. Because this sentiment is just as ridiculous.

That's awesome. Heading over to that thread now:bolt:

ETA: I see what you did there. +1

Although I refrain from (most) off-topic discussion, this one pertains particularly to me. I'm gay. And so is my boyfriend. And we like cars & trucks. And wheelin'. Did I just come out on T4R? Whoops.

Thank you guys for being supportive. It's good to know I'm not amidst a bunch of bigots. Well, mostly hopefully. =)

My boyfriend is gay too. National Coming Out Day on T4R.

Not to put you guys on the spot, but thanks for the trust. Coming out to strangers can't be easy.

Also, "I'm gay and so is my boyfriend" is cracking my shit up.

Well color me educated. Thanks!

Especially given the alternative: "I'm gay, but my boyfriend isn't..." Uh...he is now. :)

Personally, I will never be in favor of a law that restricts someone else's ability to enjoy rights that the rest of us already have. Especially when it doesn't hurt anyone. Kind of un-American, IMO.

My next-door-neighbors are rabidly anti-gay. When MN voted last year on whether to make marriage for heterosexuals, only (which failed), their yard was plastered with "one-man-one-woman" signage. They even left their church when it opened its arms to same-sex couples. After my wife told them that some good friends of ours and her former employers are gay, they don't even talk to us anymore (no big loss).

Last month, the house on the other side of theirs went up for sale and was bought by a gay couple. My wife and I are hoping that they have a bunch of loud drag-queen parties, just to annoy Mr. and Mrs. Goebbels next door :).

Maybe convince them to paint their garage door like a rainbow.

Now, I wish all of us "marrying types" would get together and demand an end to the ridiculous practice of taxing people more just because they're married.
:wtf:

I hope that's a joke. You aren't really so stupid to as equate gay marriage and pedophilia or bestiality, are you?

Yep I'm stupid. This gay thing, which by the way is a lifestyle, is just illogically wrong. Just imagine if the 4Runners are put together with all screws and no nuts or the other way around, 2 screws or 2 nuts just won't do it... So, where is my equality to be free from this illogical nonsense? So now you can cry me a river you flaming butt pirates! :banplease: Sue me, jail me, have me ban or whatever... isn't that what you homosexual mafia like to do, is to bully people into submission so that they unwillingly conform to your lifestyle..?? :banplease:

Wrong word there homey... I think you mean ideologically. What makes sense to you (or doesn't) doesn't matter. You aren't in charge. Now if you get forced to take it in the ass I may feel a little bad for you. But the way the market and politics is going lately, we're all probably a bit loose on that end.

This country would be a better place if we quit worrying about what the other guy is doing and took responsibility for our own lives.

Not the route I expected this to take.:moping:

EDIT: ...so that i can spank & bully you, being that we're mafia & all.

We throw the BEST parties! Make sure to befriend your new neighbors so you can be invited to them. :clap2:

i believe marriage is a Holy Sacrament, which many people nowadays don't believe. People are quick to divorce each other when things aren't going good. I hold a very high respect to marriage. I guess i have more traditional values for being a young man. I have gay friends and family. I must follow my faith and believe that marriage is for a man and a woman. I have nothing against gays and believe they of course have the right to be happy.
