i believe marriage is a Holy Sacrament, which many people nowadays don't believe. People are quick to divorce each other when things aren't going good. I hold a very high respect to marriage. I guess i have more traditional values for being a young man. I have gay friends and family. I must follow my faith and believe that marriage is for a man and a woman. I have nothing against gays and believe they of course have the right to be happy.

I think a lot of the dissent gets lost in the muddying of civil rights and religious rights/beliefs. Because the government decided to make what was traditionally a religious union into a legal civil union, it must figure out how to be receptive to many beliefs, and not only those that are faith based. I'm totally for churches not recognizing or condoning gay marriage. On a civil level though, with regards to legal rights, benefits, and taxation, I think we are finally headed in the right direction.

The good news for traditional religious types is that gays can't procreate. Only hetero's give birth to gays. :flypig:

to speak for myself as a main of catholic faith, i strongly believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, but in a church. i have close friends and relatives that are gay, and that doesnt bother me one bit. i can get married, why shouldnt anyone else be allowed to? im not worried about gay marriage because in the end, it doesnt affect me. its not like once gay marriage is legal that means straight people cant get married. if youre hating on gay marriage, its because you dont understand the true concepts behind gay marriage. you dont have to be pro homosexuality to be pro rights

I actually think that it's good to have some folks like you around. It adds diversity to the conversation & keeps everyone talking. Change is hard, but it can be good. I was wondering how long it would take for a true thumper to chime in. What baffles me about people who are anti-gay is the fact they can't grasp the concept that the sexual preference of another person has absolutely no effect on their lives whatsoever. To me, it would be like someone telling me I shouldn't be able to paint my 4Runner a certain color because they don't like or agree with that color. To quote a famous comedian, "it's like wiping before you poop, it don't make no sense".

I know several gay and lesbian people, and every single one of them are honest, law abiding hard working people who are more productive members of society than a lot of "straight" people I've come in contact with, and they are certainly more tolerant of others.

I understand you're trying to be funny here, but for the rest of us trying to have a serious conversation, how would we procreate to ensure the survivability of the human race under this scenario (assuming 50% of those born are also gay and assuming homosexual couples cannot procreate) with a declining population of the heterosexual, i.e. procreating, population?

There are a lot more verses in the bible (especially the New Testament) pertaining to judgement and living others than condemning gays. We could do this all day, but I feel like I should at least post one quote that we all know:

I didn't ask about what's better for the global prosperity or the environment - neither of us are qualified to speak with any intelligence on that particular subject matter and neither of us have the right to limit the growth of any particular species to ensure that global prosperity you speak about. And you're a ****ing idiot if you believe the conversation about gay marriage has to do with efforts to ensure global prosperity.

The ultimate goal of every species is longevity, sustainability, evolution....to procreate and last through eternity, correct? Political correctness aside, in the scenario that was presented that I originally responded to with 50% of the population being gay (and presumably 50% of those born are gay as well), how then will the human race continue to procreate and replace those we lose to death?

Please don't mistake this argument for me believing gays, or anyone else for that matter, should not have any less rights than any other group in this country.
