What you are failing to consider is that procreation is not a 2 to 1 lineal calculation. If that's the case our population would already be on the decline. Some people have 1 kid, others many kinds, and a lot of people have no kids. You can't promote population growth anymore than decline (unless you are the Chinese govt I suppose). Also, with the advent of artificial insemination, conceivably gay or straight men could (and actually do) help gay women with procreation. There are gay couples right now that have more children than I do and more than I probably ever will.

Well, that scenario will never happen...then why waste serious energy thinking about it? That scenario proposed by t4r4life was a joke...trying to make it all serious is futile.

The key is that all gay couple should have equal rights and benefits as straight folks. That is a no-brainer. You see gay couples that are much more loving of each other than straight folks. My gay cousin and his gay partner have been together way longer than the average straight couple...and a lot more devoted too than the average heterosexual couple. They have been together for over 15 years!

Now, whether the government should try to universally re-define the word MARRIAGE is another matter, such as forcing the re-writing children's school books to reflect it.

I'm actually quite surprised that THIS (of all topics) is one of the more peaceful and respectful threads I've seen on /off-topic/ in awhile.
 
Earlier i mentioned that the rulings allow each state to choose.

I should add that is only "for now". The next step of the plan for gay rights is to challenge those states which ban gay marriage and find a court case that is a good fit for the S-court. One side is 100% against gay marriage and the other side which is gay marriage, wants it to be legal in every state. The fight will continue until that happens.

I'm just stating the facts. The fight (for/against) is not over.

Amazing, yes? Maybe it has more to do with the intellect and caliber of people posting in this thread versus the Trayvon Martin or Obama threads. Dunno, but I noticed as well.

That is true. It is a step in one direction, but far from the war being over. I found this on the net:

50 The number of states whose marriage laws remain the same after the Court’s marriage decisions.

38 The number of states with laws defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman. That includes California, where the scope of today’s Prop 8 decision beyond the specific plaintiffs will be the subject of ongoing debate and, most likely, further litigation.

12 The number of states that can now force the federal government to recognize their redefinition of marriage. The Court struck Section 3 of DOMA, which means that it must recognize same-sex marriages in states that redefine marriage.

1 The number of sections of the Defense of Marriage Act struck down yesterday (Section 3). Section 2, which ensures that no state will be forced to recognize another state’s redefinition of marriage, is still law.

0 The number of states forced to recognize other states’ redefinition of marriage.

I will say, it is nice to see support from so many members. As most have pointed out, it doesn't effect anyone negatively. Our greatest asset in the march for equality was being open and out. Letting family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and peers see we are no different, good or bad, then anyone else.

Two days after the ruling, California hasn't slid off into the ocean, the sky isn't on fire, earth hasn't collapsed in on itself. It's gonna be ok.

If you don't agree with my choice, fine, but I would then ask when you chose to be straight. If you don't agree with my "lifestyle" because of your religion that is fine. I don't agree with your "lifestyle (being religious) either, but I am not trying to stop you from living a rewarding life. If you are disgusted at the though of gay sex, stop thinking about it. Otherwise I have to believe your secretly worried that dicks are delicious. Gay marriage threatens traditional marriage in the same way that abolishing slavery made freedom less enjoyable for white people.

As for the leviticus part where it says a man shouldn't lie with another man as he lieth with a woman for both of them have committed an abomination...blah, blah, blah. I think you have misinterpreted what god meant. That verse is about lies and lying....that men should not lie to other men in the same way they lie to women. you know, it's another way of saying 'bros before hoes' :cheers:

i think it bears pointing out that in this whole thread, ive seen nothing but rational, factual, reasonable, and respectful replies from the members who have told us they are gay, the crazy dude who went on a homophobic rant doesnt really make the other side look good. as a whole though, i do feel pretty good about reading this thread and knowing on both sides of the argument (for the vast majority of those speaking) there are respectful reasonable people. props to everyone (except that crazy dude).

on a jeep forum though.....who knows. :cheers:
