My dealer replaced both headlights...even though I have 60,000 miles now.
They covered the parts and I paid for install - basically the cost of one discounted headlight. They stated that they had to do the install in order to make it all work out so I didn't argue that part - just happy I got new headlights without all the oxidation for the price of one and they R&R'd them.
Not bad given I am way out of warranty and didn't have any other options.

I made an appointment with my local Toyota dealer to change out the headlamps per the TSB. Over the phone the service manager seemed very reluctant and said he was unaware of a TSB for headlamp oxidation. He asked how many miles I have and the year. I told him 2011 and just over 44K miles. He came back with, I'm sure the TSB is only good for under 30K miles. I replied that the TSB has no miles listed only VINs for which I'm covered. We'll see on Friday. Oh, and $88 for labor if covered.

That's what I thought. I'll stand my ground or go to another dealer. There are 3 within a short drive of my house/work.

I have 2010 SR5 and the warranty has been expired. My headlights have built the oxidation similar to this picture.
My question is that if the oxidation will grow to the front and have impact to the function of the lights?

I have this issue as well, and i believe i fall between the VIN numbers.
not sure if i want to deal with the hassle of calling the dealer, and doing all this bullshit.

So I missed the call, but the dealer called me back to say he looked up the TSB and it's 36,000 miles or 36 months for replacement. The $88 he "quoted" was for a lens polish not labor for replacements. I'll mention that people have been replaced well over 36,000 miles. Guess I'll try another dealer if they won't budge. My wife got me a 1/2 oil change/tire rotation, etc as a gift for this dealer so I still might use that, but I'd to tell them suck it and bail. Tools...

Got fully denied the replacement lamps. They stuck to the 36k mile warranty. So I canceled my oil change (even though it was a gift from the wife and 1/2 off) and will try a different dealer. Would not recommend Capitol Toyota in San Jose/Bay Area. Not wiling to help me at all. Maybe I'll just do the [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] eyebrows?
While I had mine in the shop the other day, I told the Toyota Service Rep about the hazing on the tops of my 11' headlights. He stated the shop foreman has to inspect them for condensation before they can approve replacements. Uhhh? The Service Bulletin says nothing about condensation. I brought this up when I was picking my car up and was told there has to be condensation IN THE LIGHT. I unfortunately didn't have a copy of the Bulletin with me to discuss so I'll deal with it later.
Soon after getting my rig, the hazing was real bad on both lights. Unfortunately I cleaned them both prior to seeing the Bulletin so they were not real hazy when I was at the dealership. The haze is now slowly coming back though and I am at 33,700 miles so they WILL be replacing these before 36K whether they know it or not. :thumb:

Bumping up a thread. Anybody have issues with their replacement headlights under the TSB? My set that I had the dealer replace in 2/2012, prior to the TSB, are hazing again. I tried addressing the issue again at 2 different local dealerships with TSB in hand and had no luck, because Im out of my factory warranty and my extended warranty will not cover that part. Had to call corporate and have a case manager look into it. Will hear from them next week.
is this hazing on the exterior? i've had this happen on headlamps from other vehicles and a friend that owns a bodyshop wet sanded them with 1500 and clear coated them. haven't had an issue since. plan on doing this whenever it happens down the road. all plastic breaks down but you can seal it with the clear coat and it will last as long as you take care of it just like your paint.

Having my headlights replaced tomorrow morning. Toyota of Dallas had to order the parts, which is not surprising since so few TE's are sold in this region. Had it in for the 30K service and pointed it out to the service writer. He initially quoted me $100+ for the headlight "refurbishment". When I told him I was pretty sure there was a TSB he said he was aware of one for the Avalon but not for the T4R. Thanks to the awsomeness of this site I was able to pull it up on my phone and put it in his face. With TSB in hand they still said it wasn't covered. I pointed out the SN# range on the TSB and that my SN was within the range. After a consultation with the service manager they agreed it was covered.

Are they replacing yours because you have under 30k and (I'm assuming) under the original warranty? Mine is outside of the 3/36, but is certified and my VIN is covered under the tsb. When I asked my local dealer about it, they reconditioned them for free but said they wouldn't replace them. This is the second time they have been reconditioned, so I don't have much faith in that. The reason my dealer reconditioned them again is because another dealer did it the first time. I'd love to actually get them replaced, even if I have to pay the $50 deductible.

Anyone in the Denver area have any luck getting theirs repaired/replaced out of warranty recently? I just called Autonation Toyota on Arapahoe RD and they are saying they won't because my car is out of warranty... I guess the TSB was updated in July 2012 that added verbiage regarding the B2B warranty, which wasn't on the TSB from June 2012. Bastards.

I just saw this question posed from my original post to this thread...I never considered Toyota was putting a time limit on the replacement based on the TSB. Mine was done within the warranty period, though they never asked.
Has anyone put eyes on the actual TSB to see if the wording has been changed?

Mine have this, but honestly I think I noticed it around 30k miles and now have 80k, hasn't impacted anything so I keep forgetting about it.

i have it as well. Tried to get it taken care of after the original warranty ended and Toyota wouldn't do anything about it. They said they would fix it for $700.
Plan to have it for 15 years huh? lol
