Hey Guys. ARKRWLR voiced his concern about the spindle strength so I wanted so share some of what I shared with him. I appreciate you all going over our products in such detail!... It only helps to make them better. If anyone has any questions about our products just ask! You can reach us by phone or email.
The hub assembly consists of an 1 1/2" solid spindle. This material is incredibly strong which is why we use it. The force that needs to be exerted to even begin to bend this material is over 4000 lbs. As a matter of fact or tube bender will not even touch it. This piece is welded to the plate you see on the hybrid which is 1/4" material. Because this plate is bent on both ends it basically doubles the strength of it. There are then two set collars welded to the tubing... one forming the foundation to the hub and the other being the top cap. The hub itself is over 1/4" wall tubing that is machined to fit the brass bushings we use.
The bushings are made of brass and oil impregnated. You can lubricate them with a non-detergent oil for best results. The bushings will wear out eventually but the great part is they are replaceable. Cost is $17.00 for a new pair. Honestly with good care the bushings should last a long long time! The only way you would get play from them is if the bushing were damaged during installation or they are old.
The top cap is also double shear and gusseted to prevent failure. These parts are all welded to the tubing on the hybrid which is a main support for the bumper structure. We have used this similar swing away mount on our 4th gen 4runner rear bumpers since 2006 now and they have yet to fail. In all honesty the parts themselves probably are incapable of failing. The failure will occur if there was a bad weld that cracked or the bumper metal would fatigue and would fail and crack before the hinge assembly.
We have used this hinge assembly from day one at CBI with only small modifications over the years to improve upon it. It has held tires up to 40" and many with fuel cans, hi-lifts and other goodies too. From our testing and the experience of customers the hinge assembly is strong enough.

Well that outta do it as far as explanation goes haha. You guys make a great bumper and I love mine just curious why some sag a bit and others don't. By the way I've had numerous compliments and people asking where and how much. Trying to drum up some business for you! Highly discounted gas can holder as gratitude :naughty:?

Wow man, this is an awesome build. Admittedly, I've never seen it before but I will be subscribed from here on. Not too many CBI hybrids out there from what I've seen, I don't have the swing out but am completely thrilled with the hybrid. I get SO many compliments on it! It's already taken some pretty hard departure hits and it's holding up great. One day I'll ad a swing out, seeing yours just makes me want to make that happen sooner! MTZ's for the win, I absolutely love mine, one of the best tires I've ever ran.... How have they worked for you?

Thanks man. I trying to keep up with all you guys and your crazy modding skills! I love my CBI hybrid too, I think they look better than plate bumpers personally. The mickeys are doing great for as much as I've used them. Unfortunately, they are seeing more pavement than dirt and rocks. But I like them more than other tires I've ran (BFG MTs, BFG ATs, Hankook MTs).
Your build is totally sick and I plan on taking some tips and pointers from your projector build and make a set of my own sometime next summer probably. I'm tired of my headlights being out shined by streetlights.
I've totally decided that the worst part of being in a dorm is the fact that I have zero space to work on the truck or keep tools. Can't wait for my winter break. December 15th is when the fun starts! Pretty much everything I specified in this post besides retros, and I'm adding some goodies to the cargo box.

So today I decided to take the Runner out for the first snow I've had her for. Tried to go up to West White Pine Mountain and or Monument Gulch and both were closed. I ended up doing part of Greer Road (I think) and some random forest roads.

Very nice pics man! I really can't wait until my wife and I move to Colorado...this time of year makes me depressed that we aren't there because we love snow and cold weather...

Thanks guys I'm loving the winter! First time that I have ever seen snow this early so I took advantage of it. Selling the Mach really sucked but it was for the best. They are incredible cars but the mod bug costs even more on those v8s. Four cams if you want to cam it. Boost only works till 8psi unless you change out the connecting rods (unless you like melted rods). My next street rod will have a small block Chevy just due to the ease of working on it and price of parts.

Very nice! I just installed my 8.75 wraps this weekend and I love the raked stance. Are you going to be getting new shocks, panhard drop bracket, extended brake lines, and/or extended bump stops?

From the Sonoran steel kit I have extended bumpstops, extended rear brake line, an adjustable panhard bar, and longer bilstein 5100s. So probably nothing else in that category. Ill just see when I get them how it rides and flexes wether or not I want to change things up.
I'm curious too see how much rake I'll have once I make my rear cargo box with a full sub and amp. Also paired with the toytec/eibach coils up front on my adjustable 5100s. I might try the second perch due to the fact I have an Arb,full skids, and a winch (hopefully maybe soon). It might get me around 3.5 inches of lift. Which I think would pair nice with the 4 inches I think I'll get from the 9 wraps.

Nice snow pics, TCMach. I'm going to have to live vicariously through you guys for awhile because I don't think I'm going to get a chance to have fun in the white stuff for awhile.
That last picture of the mountains and trees all covered in snow is sweet... makes me wish I was out there.
RE the rear coils, I'm curious to see if those even net a change in height w/the CBI back there. The 9 wraps are taller on an unloaded rig, but they sag more easily under weight.

I'm curious too actually. I'm not looking for a huge height increase out of them more so just to keep it where It is once I add the cargo box. If I get some height out of them that's just a bonus. My only dilemma right now is to wether or not I should stick the 9 wraps in with the cargo box and measure it and then try and match the fronts somehow. Or to just throw it all together at once and hope for the best.

If it were me, I'd put the 9 wraps in, then throw everything I had at them (put every bit of weight in that you intend to carry). Load the back up with camping gear, coolers, tents, whatever... then fill the cargo box w/tools... then measure where you sit w/the 9 wraps.
My guess is that you'll be pretty close to level, at which point you might start looking into some OME 861's. Myself and a couple others are running them and they work great w/a heavy rear end.
Once you dial in the rear, then figure out the front. The fronts are too much of a PITA to have to do them more than once.

I am also curious to see how the 9 wraps hold up with the extra weight of the CBI. With my 8.75 wraps, I am currently sitting right around 2" higher in the rear and that is with my tool box and subs, but I ultimately want to get a CBI plate bumper/tire carrier so that will add quite a bit of weight.
