What is going on with my car?
Hi all,
I'm brand new here so I hope I'm doing this right.
Story time: I bought my brother's old 2001 4runner that has been sitting in my dad's driveway for about 3 years. Before I picked it up, we had it serviced, new battery, new brake pads and fluids, etc. Managed to pass smog and get the registration renewed. While driving the car from LA to SF, all the dash lights started flickering, tape deck was acting wonky, and then the car completely shut off while we were turning a corner about 45 miles away from home. Thank god we weren't on the side of the I-5 in the middle of nowhere. Got it towed home, thinking it's the alternator, bring it to a shop and sure thing they replaced with a new Denso alternator.
While I'm at the shop to pick it up earlier today, they mention that an aftermarket security system was installed, and they took the fuses out so the horn would stop honking all the time. They say I have to press this little red button while I start the car to get it to start. Before I drive away I notice the door open light is on, so I make sure all the doors are closed and in the process hit the door lock button. The locks go down and then instantly pop back up. Door open light stays on as well. I guess its not a HUGE deal but I felt weird about it, so I asked the guys there to take the security system out and put the wires back to how they should be originally.
I guess my question is: Will taking this security system out fix the electrical issues? Or is removing it a mistake?
Sorry for the long winded post but I just want to get this car running reliably and not have to worry about kill switches and whatnot. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so so much in advance. (and thanks for listening if you made it this far) Looking forward to hanging out here
