I was performing the door actuator motor swap and found this part in the bottom of the door. It's approximately 1.25 inches long and made of pliable rubber. Anyone know what it is or what it's for? Is it even part of the vehicle!?

Thanks!

Vent/drain for the lock actuator.

Thank you! I found a picture that shows the piece installed. Is it critical? I'll have to pull stuff back out to reinstall it.[/url]

Ha, it depends on how ocd you are. Toyota put that there for a reason.
I would put it back in when I got a stress free afternoon to tinker.

New member Cooling system question

Hi Everyone,
IÂ’ve read through a bunch of threads about this topic already and I still am stumped.
I have a 2000 3.4L 6 cyl with almost 300k. I have owned the vehicle for 4 years and it has been a beast I love it.
Two weeks ago it overheated. My first thought was thermostat failed. Ordered new from Toyota dealership. Then the following day I when it was fully cool I started for a minute and heard what I thought was the water pump making an odd noise just kinda whining new noise never heard it make before. Figured that water pump had gone out itÂ’s an old truck and probably never been replaced and same with timing belt. So, we replaced the thermostat, water pump and timing belt. All new Toyota equivalent pink coolant. Ran it and bled the system. Ran fine for one day then overheated again. Pulled the radiator it was disgusting. Put a good denso radiator in filled it bled it, ran fine for another day, drove it to work and back no problems stopped after work at the store left it running came out and it was overheated. Head gasket?? I donÂ’t want you believe it but thatÂ’s where IÂ’m at. Any input or advice? Thanks in advance.

Fair point! I'm pretty OCD or as I prefer it, CDO (alphabetized). I can't actually figure what this thing does. In Tim the Toolman's video you never even see the part and I used it as my guide. Door Lock Actuator Repair (3rd Gen 4runner) - YouTube

Thanks for the positive ID and I'll figure a way to reattach it. Do you happen to know one of the actuating rods goes through it?

Maybe the fan clutch?

I believe its the rod that goes to the lock tab/knob. That the one you manually pull up to unlock, and press down to lock.

You can see it also in Tim's vid at the 22:22 mark.

Starting issues

Hey there guys,

Recently I have noticed my truck has been acting up when I try to start it up. The other day when I was leaving for work at 5:30am my truck refused to start up. I would turn the key the engine would turnover and it would start but it would only be at about 500rpm for a couple seconds and then it shuts off, and then the check engine light and low oil pressure light turns on. I could tell something was wrong because usually when it starts up it is much louder and starts at around 1.5K rpm. So after a few tries of trying to start it up normally I popped the hood and checked for anything suspicious, didn't see anything so I tried again, and again and same result. For a last attempt I decided to push the throttle down just a bit to open up the throttle body because maybe it needs some more air. So that worked, and it started up normal like it always does. After that it runs good and fine like it always does. I'm mostly confused what's happening. That morning it was misting heavily almost to a point of slightly precipitating, so I was thinking maybe the air was so moist that that is the cause of trouble to start? The engine after I get it to start runs normally. Last night when I tried to start it after i got off work I had the same problem it wouldn't start without a little assistance with the throttle. Last night it was also a high humidity and it was moist. During the day when its dry when I started it up from being cold it starts no problem. I don't have a code reader ( I really need to get one ) so I wouldn't be able to read the codes when the lights pop up after a failed start. I'm curious though is this normal? Usually no matter what my truck starts up regardless if its high or low humidity outside but when its very moist and after the engine has cooled down is the only time I have been having this issue recently. Last night it was staying idling after I started it up but since it was only idling at 500 right after start up I shut it off. Is my engine misfiring? I know the clear answer would be to hook up a code reader to it but I was wondering if anyone had anything to say what might be the issue. I've never previously had issues starting my truck, she always starts every time usually.

Anyways, thanks.

Sounds a lot like the "start" half of your COR has gone south. When you press the throttle and crank it, the "run" half kicks in, and allows it to run normally. If it were me, I'd try replacing the COR first.

Just my opinion, for whatever that's worth...

Hey there Pat, thanks for the info and where to start looking. What do you mean by COR? What is the COR? I am sure it's obvious haha but I am not seeing what that abbreviation means.

Thanks again,

I bought initial run of PCK it da bomb makes suspension swing like it supposed to.

This is good to know. I'm really interested in getting it. I'm hoping it'll yield a better rear end response as opposed to just running the adjustable bar like I currently have.

Keith's design follows the racing world bar level at any resting height. IIRC day job he's involved with Nascar.

Anybody recognize this clicking? Sounds like a playing card in some bike spokes. Only thing consistent is it starts around 35-40 - RPMs have almost no bearing on it and you can hear it get faster whenever the road gets rougher as if something is loose. Only started after recently replacing the steering rack but I've quadruple checked everything I touched

Hey guys..I just got a 01 3rd gen and I want to replace the lower ball joints. I canÂ’t afford OEM at the moment but will be able to in the near future. I want to order some after market lbjÂ’s from rock auto but I want to get some that I know will at least hold me down till I purchase OEM ones. What some recommendations? Thanks!

Also, if thereÂ’s a thread about this already I would appreciate the link to it.

My 3RZ's oil pump or crank seal is leaking. Planning on pulling the radiator and also replacing the water pump, which has +100k miles on it. A couple questions:
  • Any reason to replace the oil pump cover or just the rotor, gasket & crank seal?
  • Any other jobs I should be doing while I have easy access? dipstick gasket?

Can anybody help me out here? Does anybody know what he meant by COR? I've tried to look everywhere on what it is / means. If anyone knows what he means please feel free to chime in lol... I am stumped. I've searched on the internet and tried to look everywhere on my truck where / what a "COR" would be. I've tried to look it up on forums here too but no luck.
Thanks,

Question about dashboard modification

Hi everyone,

I have a question about modifying my car’s dashboard. I want to swap the positions of my Kenwood entertainment display and the air vents, so that the display is at the top and the vents are at the bottom. You can see what I mean in this picture:

How feasible is this project? What kind of tools and skills would I need? What are some potential challenges or risks that I should be aware of?

I appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thank you!
