Silly rant time. I had read on this forum and on the Thule website that the setup I had purchased for a rooftop cargo carrier wouldn't work. People on this board had insisted that you'll lose satellite radio, your hatch will hit the box and generally cats will sleep with dogs.

The Thule website assured me that I would need new footings. Yeah right.

There are such a wide variety of boxes and sizes that the comments you saw in the forums were probably accurate for the boxes they have and not that stubby one you bought. Im willing to bet thats the shortest box they sell and every other box wiukd be a much tighter fit. I personally have two boxes that will hit the tailgate and lose satellite as the antenna is completely covered. A third I had previously owned was they same as the other two.

I've been pissing out of my ass for the last three days and dealing with the kids who gave me that virus the days before that. I'd been trying to figure out this problem through research online instead of just freaking climbing up in the attic and doing it myself.

Looks like a Thule Pulse L (14 cu ft).
Etrailer actually has pictures/video of the box (along with several others) on a 5th Gen 4Runner - see here. No interference noted.
Also, I just went to the Thule website and it didn't suggest that I'd need anything to attach the Pulse L to a 5th Gen 4Runner.
