Toyo mt's on 2013 4runner

I just installed the toyo mt 275 55/r20. I got the tires for cost from a friend. With so many others on this site saying they had no trouble with this size of tire in the cooper and duratrac on stock rims I thought I'd be ok if I installed them on a wider aftermarket wheel. offset is the smallest I could get at Kal Tire in a wheel I like.8mm. The rubbing is annoying but I do love these tires. I have ordered bilstein 5100's if that doesn't alleviate the problem then a heat gun should. It just barely rubs on the front where the center of the fender well comes to a hump in the middle and the back where the inner most part of the mudflap sticks out.

I'm just about to order up a set of BR sidewinder's in 20 inch -12 offset w\ 275/55's bfg AT KO2'S for my 2015 LE and now you got me thinking....

Usually an MT tire is larger diameter than an AT like the Duratracs. My MT/Rs are about an inch taller than the Duratracs they replaced due to tread depth. Add to that a wider wheel and you're going to get rubbing. Careful with those MTs in this weather. They'll be fine on snow but as soon as you get on ice they'll be like hockey pucks. I just took my MT tires off for the winter for that reason.

Are your MT's Toyo? Most of the guys I talked to that run them said they are good all year round??? So far I love them. Good traction with all the snow. I even had a guy riding with me comment on how fast I stopped on an icy road. He was white knuckling a bit and using the passenger side brakes .LOL. Said he thought I was going too fast to stop so quick. He runs duratracs.

They do feel a lot harder. The ride is more truck like now than before but I thought the factory set up was too soft and made it feel like there was a lot of body roll. That is gone, but over washboard it is a lot harsher ride.
 
The M/T toys are not recommended for icy conditions, and that's coming from the biggest Toyo pushers in the business Les Schwab tires, I was at the store last week and they were ridiculously priced at 2K for 20inchers JUST FOR THE TIRES!!!! I have decided to stick with BFG's. You might look into sipping them.
 
Toyo's? don't worry, they are reported to wear quickly relative to other MT's. your rub will be gone in no time.

Nope, mine are Goodyear MT/Rs but there's really no such thing as an MT tire that is good on ice because all the things that make them good in mud (large tread voids, hard rubber, no siping) make them bad on ice. I don't think you'll find any true MT tires that have the mountain/snowflake rating.

Now that its -24*C they are feeling a little hard. I may have to put some winter tires back on my stock rims. Doh!
