TRD Pro Stolen

Reading all of this, and knowing I have a LTD which doesn't have a key makes me wonder how easy it would be for someone to steal my 4R?
If someone at the dealer would be involved, and all you need is to stand outside the door with a programmed FOB and then start it, makes me very worried.

Just to update:
The vehicle was involved in a hit and run. I'm guessing the driver hit a parked car and left. There were no witnesses. The police did not dust for fingerprints and are not further investigating the theft. The detective claims that he checked with the school that have the cameras and did not find footage. He's not planning to check the other cameras that I mentioned. This is so frustrating, it's eating me up inside.
I have yet to see the car. I'm hoping to do that today.

Should be pretty easy. I too have a LImited with teh smart key.

Damn, that's gotta sting. But as others have said these things are replaceable and at least be glad nothing happened to you or your family. I think the next question is how can this be prevented from happening the next time. Whoever did this could easily do it again given how quietly it was taken in the night.

That's a shame! I am sorry to see that beautiful car in this condition. Apparently the joy riders did not care one bit about the car they stole... or other drivers on the road or the parked car they hit.
I suppose officially the insurance company now owns the car. Too bad you can't start stripping the TRD Pro parts for your next vehicle. Looks like the front left wheel may be bent? Stick shift knobs? TRD Cool Air Intake? Oil caps? Suspension shocks? :jk:
Take the money and buy a T4R Trail Edition. With the leftover change, buy a lift kit. I hope the insurance company gives you replacement value, not KBB based on mileage. Let us know how it works out. Thanks.

I was thinking that too. I have heard that if the airbags deploy its considered automatically totaled because they are so expensive to replace and the potential for future liability (i.e: another wreck happens and something doesn't deploy) that they don't want to touch them.
That one will end up in the salvage yard after being auctioned off and stripped for parts. Its the way it works.
Go buy yourself a new 4Runner. In 2 months you will forget all about this one. In the end it's just a bunch of metal and plastic and glass and Toyota will make you another one you like just as much or more. That's experience talking right there. ;-)

Ugh, heartbreaking. Sorry man.
You might be able to get like the wheels off of it. My dad got his Weld wheels off a rather el cheapo car that was wrecked and declared totaled. A friend of mine wrecked a car and it was declared totaled, but he was able to get his stereo system, shifter knob, and air intake (late 80's Mustang) off of it, we went right into the tow lot and took everything off, he put the old air intake back on

This is a good news. Residual should be very high. You should be getting a settlement equal to the purchase price of your vehicle.
Especially since the TRD Pro is so new, that would be very little data from auction sales to determine wholesale price.
Make sure to show your original bill of sale for the TRD Pro and dont settle for anything but the full purchase price including tax, title, license, transportation, etc.
Tell the adjuster you expect to be ordering the exact same TRD Pro from the same dealer for the same price.
That's only going to happen if he has gap insurance. Once the vehicle leaves the dealer lot, most insurance companies will consider it used and price it likewise. Easily a $2000 deduction on the first day. They will also deduct 20 cents per mile that it had on it. He will be hard pressed to get every penny back, depending on the ins company.

You've obviously never had a vehicle stolen. It doesn't work that way. ;-)
If you walk out of it w/o taking it in the shorts you are lucky.
