TRD Pro Suspension Availability

Maybe I haven't been following this TRD Pro suspension as close as I should have but does this suspension work with KDSS? I was wondering because of the initial pictures of TRD Pro with KDSS with a raised suspension.

Thanks for the input. Being under the impression that the trail editions don't have the roll that other 4runners have I was wondering if this TRD Pro suspension would create that effect or would it enhance it?

Since the front springrates are lower than stock I would guess that the roll and dive will worsen

the softer springs are to accommodate additional suspension travel and absorb the bumps... the better shocks would also help this. I have not heard any TRDP owners complain of the nose dive issue.

General consensus is that its better than an SR5 but worse than a Trail with KDSS. Thats still more brake dive than what I consider acceptable.

Then a TEP w/ KDSS + TRDP Suspension would be best of both worlds.... ?

Or should I go with ICON? $1500 for suspension might not be worth it if there are better aftermarket options.

My friend had a TRD Taco and it would glide over the road humps as if it wasn't there and felt very stable... the OEM shocks on my TEP are spongy but comfortable for the most part.

No doubt that it is a nice setup. It is fine if your buying a new 4runner equipped with it, considering the amount and quality of aftermarket suspensions available, I would wonder why anyone would buy this setup afterwards.

I stick to my original statement. :)

I mean really for $450 ($620 with shocks) you can replace your front CO's with an adjustable Toytec coil-over that utilize cheap/replaceable Bilstein 5100's and give you finer height adjustment and a stronger than stock spring!

Seriously, if you guys want to pay $1600 for a system that is not rebuildable, I don't get it. Unless you can defy gravity, it is going to be awesome in a few years when it comes time to replace those shocks. I am pretty sure they don't give discounts for owner loyalty. Your total investment will be more than $3200 and those clams will totally buy you a fully badass rebuildable system plus a set of rebuilds.

Confused :noidea:

When I bought my TEP a few weeks ago, adding the TRDP coilovers was not an option at the time as they were just released just recently...

but yes I want to get the best of both worlds / bang for my buck etc etc... Not too familiar with the aftermarket options for off roading coming from my NSX with JRZ's, u get what you pay for (for the most part) in the aftermarket world...

enkrypt3d I guess the nice thing about dropping that much money is all the research is done for you, at least you hope.

That said, there is a nice thread that thebwlife is putting together, has a list of most aftermarket systems here:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/165065-5th-gen-4runner-lift-buyers-guide.html#post1657474

Then of course the coil-over bible is a must read if you really want to know more about what you are investing in:

Thanks man yea I understand the technology and terminology, but the problem is, you really dont know what you're getting until it is installed and by then its too late as far as comfort, drivability and if you actually like the way it's turned out... maybe i should find a TRDP to test drive haha :pimp:

Hey guys,

Compairing the TRD Pro suspension with softer eibach coils and matching struts with the toytechs eibach coils that have ia stiffer spring rate (620#) with 5100's .... is that not comparing apples and oranges considering what the Pro suspension was designed for?

I'm just asking here trying to understand if I am looking at the comparison wrongly....

Thanks

What its designed for and what the majority of 4runner owners want out of their suspension aren't usually the same. Most want to even up the ride height and have similar or better onroad handling and overlanding capabilities. IMO there are better options for that.

I understand your POV and that is why I asked the question to get clarification...... so the comparison is apples and oranges in reference as to how the suspension handles or felt ride of the vehicle when using the two different suspensions mentioned.

Thanks!

So then all comparisons of suspensions would be apples to oranges. Fox, Icon, Toytec, Bilstein, TRD-P, Walker Evans, Kings, Radflo, Camburg, SAW etc etc can not be compared because each individual setup is different and varies even further when you take valving and spring rate into it. That's essentially what you're saying. I don't agree. Obviously there are many variations (as listed above) and no two setups are the same when cross comparing brands, however, you can take into account other things that are not measurable. Customer support, build quality, warranty, adjustability, travel, rebuildability. Those things can be compared in my opinion. At some point someone is going to have to decide between two different setups and are going to compare them against one another. You list the pros and cons of each and make the best choice between the two, no matter if they are apples or oranges.
