I guess the good machines are smart enough to estimate what the original bump used to look like and overcompensate, versus the cheap ones that just copy paste.

Well, that's definitely a factor too- you don't want to copy a worn key. But even a fresh key from the dealer- cut from the VIN number- doesn't have the very pointy tips.
The locksmith said he doesn't have access to that database, but he's experienced enough to look at a key, type the codes into his machine, and get a perfect cut "copy" of a worn key. That's what he did with mine.

I think I do now [emoji12] The plastic top key that came with the rig had a broken top link, so there is a hole drilled in it- ghetto. I also wanted to have my locksmith make a perfect version, to help preserve my ignition/lock cylinders [emoji1360] The perfect versions are worlds different than the hardware store/dealership cuts.Simple Green, a microfiber cloth, a brush, and a bucket of hot water [emoji1360]

gotcha i went to the dealer and get my factory one replaced when i bought my runner. stock key was worn and bent lol

I was planning on getting one of those aux adapters. I don't remember the site I was going to order from, but they were the only place that I have found to have a lightning cord that has aux input and +12v for charging. I want a hardwired cord for my phone so I can charge it and listen to music with it. I'm sure I could get a fancy adapter to stream over BT, but $60 sounds way better than $260.

Did your new stock radio come from a 2002 Limited? Just wondering if it was a direct fit without modifications? If that's the case, I may look into buying a 3rd gen limited radio with the built in disc changer. I read the fine print on the aux adapters for the stock 3rd gen radios that I linked above from amazon & I think it may work with your new stock radio. The manufacturer's info states the aux adapters are not compatible with factory radios with model number "AD-xxx" which is the original one you had (& what I currently have) but it doesn't state anything about the "A56811" which is the one you currently have.

EDIT:
Looked again at the compatibility info of the aux input adapters I listed above and your new stock radio, model A56811, is listed to be compatible with those adapters.

Highly unlikely to be your style, but it's a super cheap functional option I've used for awhile on 4 different cars.

Bluetooth, plugs into cig lighter with USB charging port, and then plugs into a headphone jack. On my 96 Corolla I then had it go to a tape deck-headphone adapter
and hid 99% of the wires.

Worked great just had to "play" the tape and had music, and Bluetooth for calls. Again, cheesy in thought, but completely practical and functional when all the wires are tucked away. And like $42.

[MENTION=127339]4Reak Show[/MENTION], you're right about it. It being my style! I think the first adapter on his list would work just fine for me, and it's super cheap. BT is awesome, but I really don't mind a cord. Thanks for the suggestion though [emoji5]

Really been slacking on the photos. It's too easy to just use my phone, and the iPhone 7+ camera is decent.
Anyway, I changed my plugs last night-

The plugs didn't look too bad- which I was bummed about. I always like to see horrible plugs, because then I'm exited in it running so much better [emoji23] First 3-

Cleaned the MAF while I was in there. The pic is of the bulb before. It didn't really look dirty to me, but I'm not really sure what I am looking for-

Tried to get a pic of the other element down in there, but I just couldn't.
TB didn't look to bad, but I cleaned that while I was in there too-

On to the other bank. It was this side that made me really realize what I was looking for- as far as wear on the plugs. The center electrode was pretty obviously eroded on all the plug! The first bank I did was the same, I just wasn't paying attention to it.

Seriously question here guys and gals- WHAT KIND OF NINCOMPOOP DOES THIS?!

I try to be understanding of different people's thought processes, but COME ON! They even had to go to the extra work of trimming the spacer to make it fit around the terminals. Which sucked, because that made it a slightly less-solid base. Oh well.

Strap sanded down and re-painted, and spacer installed on the correct end-

Me too man. At first I just assumed that's how it went. Then I really looked at it, and I'm like "WTF?!"

Unquestioned. Even though I'm not in the elite 3rd gen club, I almost feel awkward with how much I crush on mine... And serious question: do the significant others of you guys give you funny looks when you talk about them like a mistress? God knows mine does...

And we got my wife a 5th gen, and she still looks at me funny... Thinking back now, she just knew what to say to get a nice new vehicle. (Little does she know, in 10-15 years, the 5th is gonna belong to daddy-o)

I'm just glad I'm not alone with the 4runnerections.

Well, I don't talk about mine like a mistress, but my wife actually crushes on the 3rd gen as much as I do, so she might be down for a 3-way [emoji848] She took it yesterday, and she called me and said "I just wanted to tell you how much I love all the little things you do- the fog light switch, the new shift knob- I love it" haha So she's got a girl-boner for it for sure.
My buddy has a 3rd gen(low mile '99 Highlander) and a 5th gen('16 Premium 2 with 3rd row), and he and his girl actually prefer driving the 3rd gen in most cases. He said the 5th gen is definitely nicer for long drives/trips.

There is an elite 3rd gen club?

Well it's been my experience that having a "step-child" 2nd gen has given me very little credibility. Even tho I have intimate knowledge of the inner workings and electronics of 3rd gen engines from my swap, I get scoffed at quite frequently.
I want to argue 4th genners get the same flack.

I guess odd-gens (1st/3rd/5th) are respected more. In my opinion, 3rds are the best all around, with 1/2 gens having the most heart.




Or maybe I'm just a sociopath reading into Internet rhetoric and justifying 1,000's of dollars and hours turning a 2nd into a 3rd based on jealousy(?).
