underhood light

I remember that some of you guys were talking about a underhood light for the 4runners...how about this (yeah, yeah, I know its a GM product, but...)

Or you can do what I did.

I had a 1991 Ford Escort GT...it has a underhood light activated by a mercury level switch (So, if you park on a steep hill, does the light stay on???). I wanted to put one on my Alero (which didn't come with a underhood light....or a dipstick for the tranny, for that matter). Anyway, went to the local junkyard and found a second gen Ford Escort....took out its underhood light and rigged it to work in the Alero...not too hard...just remember to fuse it.

Was thinking about doing the same for the 4runner until I saw the above.

I always check my fluids at every fillup...me and my old ways...what you gonna do???

The magnet stick-on idea is great. How is the light powered? Is it by battery? How much light does the bulb give--any idea of wattage?

That looks pretty cool! I wonder too about the power & how much light.

BTW - I did make-up & install my own pair of lights under the hood with a plunger switch. The 2 bulbs light up things well.

As for the specs of the GM underhood light...not sure. But it did say sometime about a wiring hardness, so I'm assuming that is 12V.

I may give them a call a little later to get some more info...I'll post what I find out.

Sent them an email...here's what I got on that underhood light...

1) It is powered by the harness which you wire into a 12V source.
2) There is a manual switch to turn the light on/off.
3) There are no markings on the bulb itself, and the wattage is not
specified. I would probably guess around 20W or so.

So it comes on when you pull it out?
