Unner's Build, 2001 T4R 4x4

Nice pics as always man. I recently bought a set of 255/80/17 km2's and have been really impressed by not only the tire performance itself, but the size. I personally love the look and function of a tall "skinny" tire and get compliments on them all the time. I noticed almost no difference in engine bog when i moved away from my 265/70/17's. They're a load range E. I had a local rock crawler guy with the same tires tell me he's put them through rocks and thorns left and right and never punctured one. Hope my 2 cents helps a tough decision!

Where did you get that Yellow Armor All? That's shlt's hot!

Haha the entire truck was covered in it, but most if it blew off on the interstate, except for the tires. Thought it was a pretty cool picture.

Yeah I like the skinny tires as well, whatever I go with it will be a 255. The only thing with the KM2s is they're a Mud Tire and I'm almost positive I would rather go with an all terrain this time around, or something that is at least siped.

I would go for the 255/80r17 if I were you...

That's the size I want, but I also don't want to make this rig any slower. I'm debating how much worse my gas mileage and acceleration would be with the extra .6" of tire diameter and 8 lbs or so a tire.

Also rented a 2017 Ram 1500 Hemi this weekend to move some furniture for my girlfriend. The Ram moved so effortlessly on the interstate, especially up hills, but even driving a truck with 400 hp, heated seats, heated steering wheel, air conditioned seats, and every other feature under the sun I couldn't help but miss my truck.

I daily my rig with mostly in town and some highway. With mostly in town driving i see about a 1-1.5mpg reduction over my 265/70/17s. Keep in mind however that i have no armor, and am still 2wd at this time. I do however haul a fair amount of tools due to my job and have terrible gears.. Not even 4:10s. So, I'm not sure if that was all that helpful, but here's for trying lol.

Updated the initial post with everything new, and added hyperlinks to everything that has been done since the initial post. Organization is good.

My transfer case output shaft seal is leaking again, so I've got another seal and nut ready to go in. Hopefully this one lasts longer...

Also thinking about swapping in these 861's I've had sitting around here for the last 6 months. I think it would put me around 39-39.5" ground to fender, and I could raise the front up .5" to 37". That would leave me with 2-2.5" of rake driving around town unloaded. Right now I'm at about 1" of rake with the rear bumper and nothing else in the back. Can't decide if that would be too much rake though.

Also debating making a trip to Utah for spring break and exploring the Moab area for 5-6 days. I've got 10 days total, so 4 days total driving round trip would leave me Sunday-Friday to explore everything out there. It would be mid-march so I'm not sure if it would be too cold to camp in the truck or not then, but I feel like I need to get this truck out there.

Nice Unner! Your build always makes me think of a super clean black 4runner that got snatched up befoearly I could buy it. I like what got going on with it. I need to update my thread as well. I got a lot done in a short amount of time. I have been waiting a bit for a chance to get out into some scenery to get some non driveway update shots.

As for rake, I love mine and super glad I went that route. I did a SS rear lift with King 2.5 coilovers up front. I even set the CO's a bit on the high side because I knew skids and winch would soon follow. I would say throw those 861s on, especially with your rear bumper/ swing out.

The pick in front of the ice cream shop is right after lift installed. The second pic is after sliders and skids.

Well you ended up with a nice 4Runner anyway! The new bumper looks good on there. How much rake does your's have measurement wise? I want to put them in, but don't want to ride around like a stink bug anytime the truck is unloaded...

So after adding skids and whatnot, it looks like I ended up with about 2.5 inch lift up front with about 4 to 4.5 lift out back. So about a 2 inch rake.

I plan to give it a little time, especially after installing my winch with cable, to see where the front ends up. I can crank the front COs up a bit as needed to maintain my rake. I am unloaded in the rear. I really like the comfort of the ride. It feels super smooth overall on these unloaded 7 wraps with Tokico shocks. But you may want to find out people that switched to 861s specifically. It seems that a ton of our members running a swing out rear bumper end up with these. As to their comfort, I can't comment. Otherwise, I suppose there are Superflex, or LC 8 or 9 wraps, (that might balance out with your additional bumper weight in the rear.) Do you just want to make sure you are not sagging when loaded, or do you want a bit more rear lift overall? I would think that you could adjust your front coilovers so that the wreck was not so extreme. Obviously I imagine there is some break in time as well where are the rear would settle.

Pre lift:
Lf: 20.5
Rf: 20.25
Lr: 20.25
Rr: 20.25

Post lift:
Lf: 22
Rf: 22
Lr: 24.25
Rr: 24

Hmmm. Your's looks good with 2" of rake.

I'd like a little more rear lift so I have more rake and still have some rake when loaded, but I don't really want to raise the front more than half an inch or so. I like keeping the front end kinda low so I don't have to worry about wearing out components as much and can keep a good alignment with the stock UCAs.

My only worry with the 861s is that they may be too much and leave me with 3" of rake or so. I used BFAD's measurements and figured our trucks are about similar in weight at the time he made the measurements so that's where I came up with I would be sitting 39.25" ground to fender, but everyone's truck is different, everyone measures a little different, etc.

I guess the only way to really know is to swap the springs. I might just have to do that, it's not too hard to swap back if needed. The hard part would be getting the 861's in there, I remember the 7.5 wraps being tight already.

I actually thought about getting a set of 8 wraps or so and running them, but I already have the 861's. If I buy a set of 8 wraps I'd have 2 sets of springs I need to sell.

Haven't been in here in a while. All looks good man, hope all is well!

Thanks for stopping in Matt. I'm good, hope everything is going well for you too. Maybe this summer we can meet up somewhere in NC and do some wheeling or head to the outer banks like I've been talking about. The timing just didn't work out with the weather and hurricane during the fall and spring. I'm thinking this summer may be good though.

I would definitely be in. It's a pretty quick drive for me and I get down there whenever I have the chance. Depending on when your school's spring break is and what you're doing, I may try and camp down there for a few days and you're more than welcome to join(if you don't make it to Moab). No plans set however since there's still plenty of time.

My 8 wraps were a real bltch to get in. Took me, a friend & a 4' crow bar to force them in. It's not something I'd like to do ever again. LOL

And to think, some run 9 wraps...

I like the look, feel, and function of the rake. I will work to maintain this stance and address if it levels out over time.

Unner I hear what you are saying concerning not wanting to raise the front end geometry. I think mine is set pretty mild and don't want to jack it up and stress the front geometry much as well.

I would swap out what you have and see how you like it. Ride characteristics can be subjective and I take information for what it is and with a grain of salt.

Did you disconnect the shocks when putting the coils in? I had no issues putting my 8 wraps in. Shit, I can almost pull mine out without disconnecting the shocks.

Did shocks & springs at the same time, I'm pretty sure shocks weren't in yet. It was a while ago.

That was my original plan actually, some camping around OBX for spring break, but I looked at the weather for my spring break (week of March 13) and it looks like it would still be a little cool out there for "beach" weather. Not that Moab will be any warmer, and it's 10 hours farther, but we'll see. They're still just ideas I'm pondering.

My 7 wraps were kinda difficult to install, but I did it myself. I could also add my rubber cone bumpstops back in and maybe an OME trim packer or two on each side. That would probably give me about an inch more in the rear that I want.

We're on the same page for sure. You're right, ride quality various person to person and I do take everything with a grain of salt. I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm thinking either try the 861's and see how I like it, or put the cone bump stops and trim packers in the rear and call it good.

Were your's new or used 8 wraps? Used 8 wraps probably aren't any taller than new 7 wraps.
