I got to join the cool kids club!!
Joined the cool kids club today and actually went off-roading at Hollister Hills OHV park. It was awesome! Had 6 of us out there (I think). Had a great time and really learned what this thing is capable of. It was impressive. Sliders were definitely put to use for their purpose. Next mod: Skid plates lol.
The view wasn't bad either

Recovered my 4runner after a failed snorkel and descent control test.
I'll post up a list of parts for sale soon.
I hope that dumbass standing next to the highly strained cable isn't you.
Apparently car thieves in Utah joy ride then roll the vehicles into a local reservoir. This is the popo retrieving one such vehicle.

Went to Hollister with a bunch of guys but mostly wanted to take photos with the new camera. But of course I played too.

Yosemite
Took the family to central California to one of the most stunning Valley's on the planet - Yosemite. Almost all of our driving was on pavement, never used 4wd or the sliders or the lift, but it was a great ride, an extraordinary destination, and wonderful experience.
Had there been more time, might have looked for some hard to get to places, but as it is, I was instilled with a new respect for treading lightly to leave the natural beauty and balance of a location the way you found it.
I have a whole new respect for the environment now, and hope to take that with me anywhere else I go.
It's a great big world out there. As John Muir would have said, "The mountains are calling, and I must answer"

Installed my Skids and finished installing and wiring my LED lights.
Oh, and my runner tried to kill me. No not from a jack accident while installing the skids which one might expect. I got my arm caught on the inside of the wheel well when doing some wiring and it was stuck good! Wife on vacation for another 3 days, phone not in reach, and 100 deg in the shade for the next three days. Had me hella worried for a while. The neighbors are close enough to have likely hear me yelling for help at some point, but far enough away that it may have taken some time
I finally managed to wrench my arm free after about 15 minutes of trying and left a little skin behind doing it. That movie/book 127 hours was going though my head! I didn't even have my knife on me!

Things like that always seem to happen when no one else is around. Glad you're all in one piece; skids look great.

Got to really try out the new gears today. Some highway travel between here and Moab, plus a couple trails. I have to say I'm really sorry I waited so long to do this. It was a PITA just to maintain speed on the highways around here, constantly shifting between 3-5 and having to plan ahead to get a run at hills. Now it just motors up in 5th gear, or drops to 4th gear on big hills.
On steep passes, it used to be 2nd gear most of the time, 3rd gear a little bit, and 1st gear to make it through tighter turns. Now, just 3rd gear and go.
In 4lo the difference is even more pronounced. Much easier to go slower, 1st gear engine braking on idle keeps the speed constant over obstacles where it would require careful 2 foot work before.
MPG on the dash display has gone up about 1.5 mpg, though based on error in each direction before/after it is probably about the same. Not that I really care about economy, but tank range is sometimes very important.

I still have a 20 in Amber light bar not attached yet that is going to go on my front bumper in a few weeks when it gets here.
Thinking about mounting some red LED lights for braking too. Could probably also use a center mounted backup light.
Aaaaaand... this is where I got my arm stuck. Reaching all the way down to the bottom of the wheel well from inside the jack compartment. I didn't even get the grommet back that I was fishing for.

Oh do I hate (actually love) to hear this. The gears and lockers might be the next thing to do!
