What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Making Progress

With the help of my friend, installed OME 3” Suspension Kit and SPC Upper Control Arms. Ride is definitely a little stiff with mostly stock weight but that will change over time as I add more armor and bumpers. It looks incredible with 3” of lift on all four corners.

Also painted and installed my angled RSG sliders, got a fresh alignment at RSG, and painted my stock wheels satin black. Major aesthetic upgrade in my opinion for $20 worth of Duplicolor spray paint. I sanded them with 320 grit and cleaned them with their prep spray and did about 3-4 coats of black primer and 3-4 coats of paint.

Considering a set of Spidertrax spacers for my 275/70/17 KO2s, as well as an ARB compressor and some recovery gear...then I’ll likely move on to installing a full length roof rack and rooftop tent, but that may be a while as I’m not keen on losing my garage parking!

Vector D601 pics...

I have a 2018 MGM and looking at D601 vectors. I didn’t know what anthracite looked like until your post. Have you been happy with them? Do they look dark charcoal gray in sunlight? Also do they have metallic in them? Trying to figure out if I go with them or the scs ray10s or black rhino warlord. Decisionssss.....

Here are a few pics in the sunlight. The have a fine metallic finish. If you zoom in on the close-up shop you can see it. Hope this helps your decision!

I’m 99% set on this rack. Just don’t know if I should go 3/4 or full length. You have pics of both? And pros and cons to either? What made you guys decide to go 3/4 on one and full on the other? If you could do it again would you do 3/4 or full on both? Thanks!

Here are some shots of both from our trip to CO. I got the 3/4 because I was a little tentative about drilling the roof on the TRD. After the drilling process went well on the SR5, I would be less hesitant now to drill the TRD, but I had already put on the 3/4. Both have their advantages - space on the full length is awesome, ease of install on the 3/4 was great. Doing it again I like the flexibility of having both so I might have made the same decision. If I had to only pick one I would go full length for the utility.

What did you use to program all of the features? Especially the rear windshield wiper. That drives me nuts...

Toyota Techstream..

This thread has the link to the cable and software on amazon:

There is another thread about an app and a Bluetooth dongle that's can do some of the basic options, but I didn't subscribe to that thread so I can give you a link

Only reason I’m going 3/4 is because of the sunroof. I also don’t see myself storing more than a couple roof boxes, highlift, and maxtrax up there.

The 3/4 is great, especially with a sunroof. On the full length - you can remove a slat or two for the sunroof prior to build and still get the full-length capability with your fresh air.

Currently getting quotes to wrap the front and rear valance from some shops near my job. Some of these quotes are ridiculous tho. Mainly just feeling it out.

Take a look at Plasti-Dip. It is a whole lot cheaper and very easy to do. So far my truck has been through the automatic wash twice and no problems. I figure that even is it does screw up once a year, it'll take d@mn near 10 years to pay for the wrap.

Nice man! My mind is made up. Now the decision is 17s vs 18s lol. I am getting a 2inch lift with bilstein shocks!

I also believe if I get the 3/4 now and decide later to go full length I can buy longer sides and more slats which is nice, the ability to expand without spending another grand.

Siiiiiiick. Definitely add the wheel spacers for Trail wheels.

Swapped chrome door handles out for black

Today I replaced the chrome handles on my T4R with OEM black handles to match the paint. I followed the instructions in Sp8Ball's thread. The first door I tried took me about an hour. Then the next three took about 20 minutes each.

Originally, I sprayed the handles with black Plasti-dip, and it looked great for a few months. But then it started to peel...especially on the driver's door since it's used the most. So, I ordered all the parts listed in this post and got to work today. It was pretty easy to follow sp8ball's tutorial.

The one thing I would reiterate very emphatically is this: do NOT lift the door panel up after you get all the lower clips off. It needs to be pulled off straight back toward you. The black metal clips at the top that hold the top of the panel flush to the window channel are supposed to stay clipped to the interior top lip of the metal door frame. If those clips come off with the panel, you'll have to take them off the panel along with the window weatherstripping and reinstall that on the metal door frame so that you can push the door panel straight back on.

Good call on the RAM Mounts - just did the same a few weeks ago. Very happy with the results. I went with the seat screw mount and made a few mods to the plastic cover to make it fit.

Does the seat screw mount attach firmly? I wanted a very solid mount and will be kind of overbuilding the armature to ensure stability while on trail. Ill post up some pics and part numbers when they arrive.

Inreach expoler + tested for a week or so... really impressed with the Earthmate app and capes...ran a lot of nav setups and this one circles the herd...

Running that ham with the antenna inside the cab is doing you no good. The cab essentially acts like a faraday cage and absorbs most of the incoming/outgoing radiation. Mag mount an external antenna or use it as a good excuse to buy a mobile radio.

It’s pretty solid. I torqued it down pretty well. Took a few tries to get it right. With my iPad mini I get a little play on big bumps. I’ll post a pic tomorrow.

Thanks for all the feedback! The full length looks a lot better and I love having the ability to carry much more up there... just wish there was a no drill option. Decisions decisions...
