What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Today - Used a clay bar and wax cleaner to remove all the dirt, debris and finish from the paint.

This week - Will be wet sanding and buffing the rougher areas of the paint before polishing and waxing later in the week.

Also want to refinish the roof rack, but haven't decided how best to do that yet. Suggestions are welcome.

You really should have clayed, cleaned, and waxed all in the same day. Over the course of this week the paint is going to pick up some dirt.

I just painted my rack today. I used Dupli-Color Trim Black. I got it at AutoZone for about $7. I would highly recommend taking the entire rack off before you wax. If you don't then wax is going to end up all over the rack and stain it white.

To remove the rack you simple remove the end caps (four) by removing four screws. Then you can slide the cross bars out. Then there are three more screws per rail to remove. You will be amazed at how dirty it is under the rack.

When you go to install the rack again make sure you put some clear silicon in the holes and on the threads of the bolts.

I would say from start to finish it will take about 2.5-3 hours including letting the paint dry.

Did plugs (Denso IK22's) and wires and installed my HID kit. Wow do I need to adjust the aim way down compared to my standard bulbs.

Found a OEM hitch at a junkyard for $75 while I was getting my tires mounted. On the way home picked up a spring for my squeaky clutch pedal. After install gave her a wash and shined her up a bit.

Clutch Spring - bought a 2 pack of throttle return springs at O'reillys for $9, no more squeaky u bushing!!

New to me tires - bought off a guy on CL for $200 GT Radial Adventuro MT, transition tire til I get Nitto Trail Grapplers, should last through the summer

Productive day! I ordered the front flaps for my flares, getting sprayed tomorrow like the rest of my flares. Sometime in the next few weeks going to go to the 3rd notch to get less rake, if I don't like the ride I'll move it back down.

Wasted $55. Got a CEL, checked the codes and it said P0120. Ok so checked TPS and the ohms seemed to be off. Bought new TPS and installed. Cleared codes and about 1/4 mile from home...CEL came on again. Same P0120 code.

Dinabox, I had those on my 1st gen for about 5 years. In that time I swear they lost about 1/8in of tread. I had great luck with them!

Thanks guys, means a lot. So much going through my head right now. Took a closer look today, the rear axle is cracked/bent, the front axle is shifted 2" towards the passenger side, both driver side doors are slammed and the rocker is destroyed, the passenger side is all scraped up, 3 wheels are damaged, and the hatch doesn't open. I'm sure it's dead.

I've got a few messages out to see what's out there for replacements, I really fell into the 1st one, it was perfect and right in front of me. I've tossed around the idea of swapping the driveline into a NA 4Runner, but I'll never find a truck as clean as this one was, the RHD didn't bother me. Plus there is a lot of potential for damaged cases, bellhousings, mounts, etc from the looks of the truck. I think the shell to do this would cost a premium, if I could even find one. It would have to come out of the southern US.

........., I need to get as much money back out of this thing as possible, I am not looking forward to this.

That SUCKS that it happened, I hope justice is coming to you. Great to hear you are ok. I would suspect that many of the pieces that are broken can be repaired using a US spec 4Runner. Have you contemplated that? Hope it all works out for ya!

Over the weekend, I had a local shop install new front swaybar endlinks and bushings as well as a new fuel filter. Tried to replace the endlinks myself, but the bolts were so rusted, I couldn't get them to budge.

Then, I changed out the map lights and dome lights to LEDs off of eBay. Love how much brighter they are.

No I don't, I kinda just looked around at other ideas and then just built what fit my needs/wants.

Installed lift, not today but finally got pics. TRD coils and bilsteins up front, LC 7.5/8 wraps and bilsteins in the rear.

From the looks of it the whole cab is twisted from the roll, if anything the remaining pieces could be used to make an existing 4runner a turbo diesel, but I'm not sure what route I'll take. I'm currenly driving a friend's '94 Corolla, I miss my truck, badly. I'm currently concentrating on catching the guy that hit me, I found a partial VIN on a piece of bumper I found at the scene, dealer was able to tell me it's from a '98 Dodge Stratus. Took this info to the police, learned that nobody had even been assigned to the file in the week that had passed. Pretty discouraging.

Hope you catch the idiot. As far as "salvaging the surf", doesn't sound like the insurance will repair it (due to its age). I'm assuming the drivetrain is ok? If so, maybe you can swap over the components (engines, tranny, ecu, t/c, etc) to a 4Runner? Anyway, keep us posted!
