That's the point I'm trying to make!
Two points, actually. (1) The so-called Interstates where all this took place were basically deserted with flat, smooth and laser straight roads. On my jaunt to 100 MPH, the only vehicles I passed were 18-wheelers, and when cruising between 85 and 95 MPH I passed almost no one, partly because there was almost no one there, and partly because everyone else there was doing exactly the same thing. I also noticed the licence plates on the other cars were mostly local, so the locals knew exactly what they were doing.
If you want to put your family and friends in real danger, tell them to go out west and then travel at exactly the speed limit. They're as likely as not to get
"steamrollered," and generate a lot of ill will in the process. But hey, it's your
call.............
My point being that the 4Runner is an astoundingly competent highway vehicle, capable of sustained high speeds in remarkable comfort, silence and stability. I would not have guessed that, and indeed would not have believed it had some salesman tried to tell me that. A friend of mine tried that in his Dodge Ram diesel 4X4 a couple of years back and we returned from that little foray completly freaked and half deaf! Never again!
