What SUV other than a Runner

Depends on the purpose of the vehicle. Is it just a grocery getter? If so I would say the new sequoia.

If we are talking off road use, I would probably be the H3 Alpha due to the newer creature comforts. Probably the only vehicle to rival the FZJ-80 straight from the factory. However, if we are just limited to offroad capability, the FZJ-80 still has a slight edge with the SFA.

Either a LC, fj, or if I had to go other than a toyota I'd probably get BMW x7 or a VW with the turbo deisel.

If I was going to throw away 100k+ on a vehicle, I'd probably get a Lexus LX570 (because I'm in Canada and they don't sell Land Cruisers here anymore) and send it to Slee Offroad to get it outfitted. Wouldn't be quite as rugged as an 80 series, but everything else would be much improved.

Interesting. I see jeep has made some serious upgrades to the 2012 models. I wonder if they strengthened the rear driveshaft as well. Defintely a serious offroad vehicle straight from the factory. I did not know that they put in a D44 and electronic lockers.

Still, the downside about the chrysler products is that they are chrysler products.

Wait. I misread the jeep axle info. The front is still a Dana 30. If I remember correctly, when they started advertising the Dana 30 front axle a while back, the outer axles are 30 spline but the inner axles are only 27 spline which is still a BIG weak point. Especially with a front locker. Im thinking this is still the case as is why the front axle is always one off the first things replaced on the wrangler. I will take the toyota or H3 Alpha IFS over the jeep solid axle straight from the factory. I have been through obstacles with IFS that a jeep broke a stock axle on.

I was lucky enough to get an FZJ80 (actually a lexus LX450) last summer. I have since sold my runners and am building the cruiser.

The 80's are great vehicles if maintained correctly, lots of guys are doing the headgasket as preventive maintenance to avoid some of the known problems with the engine. If the engine is cared for, it'll last as long as the 2.7 or 3.4.

Been looking to add another Toyota 4x4 that can seat 5 a little more comfortably than our 3rd & 5th gen.

FZJ80: My ideal choice but unlikely to find due to my specific search criteria.
3rd gen Tundra crewmax: Truck bed makes up for no 3rd row.
J200 LC: Not my favorite looking LC but less old vehicle maintenance since it'll be newer.

Heard a rumor that the new Land Cruisers are supposed to be smaller & may not have a 3rd row. If that's the case then it'll most likely not make my list unless it happens to be awesome.

the other day while craigslist surfing, so an add for a jeep grand cherokee ( never wanted one) but was a very rare edition with a stock Mercedes Diesel engine...that might be cool.

But along the jeep line...would think of a 2000 cherokee with dana axels, the 231 transfer case and straight 6. Now that set up with a diesel would be nice

a older land bruiser would be nice too with dual lockers, etc

My 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited with Quadra Drive was a beast in snow with cooper AT3’s

With the V8 it got shitty gas milage.

Also, I've always thought the 1st Gen two door Rav4s were kinda cool, in so much as they're not cool at all. Kinja did a good write up on them a few years ago.
