wobbly steering wheel TE? should I upgrade?

2012 TE here if I've lived with a shaking steering wheel for about 4 years now. II'mabout fed up and have thought about getting rid of it due my hatred of driving it. went to toyota today to look at a 2014 land cruiser and saw a white trd pro 4 runner. I have to admit iIwas in love. We drove it and it felt much nicer than my TE. But my TE didn't shake brand new either. I'm wondering if i should just start upgrading aftermarket front end parts on my TE to attempt to fix this or should Iget out now because iIwill not escape the horrid shaking steering wheel even with a new 4runner?

Original tires did it too. I'vehad these tires load force balanced and it helped but still shakes. Dealer said nothing is wrong. It checks out fine. I know it'snot fine my hand goes numb after 30 minutes of commuting lol.

Did they turn down the sensitivity on the road force balancer? I know the first time my wife let's me have the 4runner for the day I amvrevalancing the tires because I felt vibration from the tires on the test drive.

Wow. Why you put up with this through the entire warranty period is a mystery to me. Why you allowed the dealer to get away with "nothing is wrong" is another mystery.

There IS something wrong, and it CAN be fixed. I assume the shaking is obvious, and occurs at XX mph, yes? If so, you simply need to take the SM for a test drive (him driving, you riding along - this eliminates "found nothing wrong" excuse).

You'll have to become much more forceful, or find a dealer or shop that gives a shit. My SR5 drives like a dream on the hwy.

Now that the repair is on you, they can probably find it. Or, perhaps you secretly want a new one.

What tires were the original? And what tires are on there now? I originally became a member here back in '07 for this exact issue. Had 4 different dealers and another two independent DT all try to balance mine. None succeeded. Fought with Toyota for a few months; they finally gave in... Swapped my original Dunlops for four new Michelins. Drove it straight off the lot on to the highway and it drove like a dream. Original tires were out of round... Could not be balanced no matter who tried.

The vehicle is all stock besides procomp wheels and new general grabber at's. I can'tremember what the OE wheels were. These are the same size just all terrains. it's still under 100k mile extended warranty iIthink.

I have my 2014 with 33k miles in the garage right now for the same thing. Has factory tires on it. They said these tires wear uneven and shouldn't of even been put on the 4Runner. I am at 6/32 tread so once they get a little lower I will replace them with some meaty tires.

I cannot imagine having this type of issue and never pushing to get that crap fixed earlier on. If it's shaking and a service manager rides with you and it's obvious then there is ZERO ability to state otherwise. The only out they have is if your vibration is at dangerous speeds well over the posted legal limit. Then it's your problem but I don't see this being your issue.

That is why you say "no, it's not!" I mean we're in 2016 and dealerships are still using that excuse? It's almost worth keeping the old wheels just in case shit like this happens and you can prove them wrong but...seriously ridiculous that they use this as an excuse. I'd be insisting they figure this out.

I took it back in today and insisted they do a road force balance set to higher sensitivity or "passenger" setting from what I've read on here. The tech that talked to me said he had never heard of this problem on 4runner and Ishowed him the poll thread on this forum with almost 500 votes. He then said usually forum poster are full of it most of the time haha. He did promise that they were going to examine it after the road force balance and if it still vibrates then therReis something wrong and it needs to be aaddressed so iIcommend him for that. Hopefully it gets fixed finally iI'msick of driving around with a shaking steering wheel. Also iItest drove a new trd pro so iI'llprobably be selling it even if the vibration goes away lol.

no I actually bought my current TE about 100 miles away. they give me great deals but the only problem is when I need service or warranty work I go local and they charge me 100 dollar deductible for warranty work but If i drove it back up to the dealer I bought it from there would be no deductible. That part kind of sucks so ive thought about buying local and not traveling to my favorite dealer. No dealers around here will give me a deal like the out of town guys will. usually its a minimum of 1000 dollars cheaper to go to the out of town dealer and their service is impeccable. its just the drive which is a bit of a hassle.
