17" TRD wheels and 285 Duratracs

Ok Im officially jealous of my WIFE. How the hell did that happen?? lol. These showed up today. Still waiting on the back springs and then I'll get to wrenching. Hopefully my new Tundra will get here soon to take a little sting out of the wife having a cooler ride than me. Im sure she'll be posting up lots of pics when its done. What is it about shiny new tires and suspension that makes me feel all giddy inside? lol

So do any of you guys see any issues with running this set up? I read about the fender liner mod but Im also reading about body mount chops which I really don't want to do. If its an issue with back spacing on the wheels then I might just look into wheel spacers. I always heard that they were a bad idea but I see a lot of people on here running them so maybe I was misinformed?

You may have to some liner trimming.
Since you're doing UCA's, the body mount shouldn't be an issue since you'll be able to get more caster.

Spacing out usually is what gets people in trouble with rubbing.

Thanks. I didn't realize that. In my head I saw the more a tire was tucked in the more likely it would rub body mounts. I haven't really got under there to check things out yet. I guess I'll just put the lift and tires on and then mod as needed to fix any rubbing. Mostly I don't want her to freak out if she hears any noises while driving around. lol

The more tucked inwards it is the more likely it would rub on the spindles and uca and what not. It's pretty easy to visualize if you go turn your wheel to the left and look at the edge of the tire near the front mud flap; you see how if you push the wheel outwards it would put the tire that much closer to the mud flap?

Thank you. That makes sense. There are so many people running 285s with different results that it can get pretty confusing. So Im just going to install the lift and tires and work out whatever rubbing issues come up.

Just did same thing with tires. Swapped out stock for duratracs and really haven't noticed any big difference in the weight of tires. Truck really does still drive the same. After pushing in the liner I had to trim about 1/2" of the very end of the fender. the edge of the lug just hit it on full lock in reverse

Im not sure how accurate my bathroom scale is. Its digital and it fluctuates a little every time. But I weighed myself 3 times and then averaged and then 3 more times holding the wheel with the ring and lug nuts and I came up with 27.9 lbs. But like I said, I honestly don't know if my scale is accurate. Sorry I cant be more help.

Im not sure how accurate my bathroom scale is. Its digital and it fluctuates a little every time. But I weighed myself 3 times and then averaged and then 3 more times holding the wheel with the ring and lug nuts and I came up with 27.9 lbs. You will get a better reading if you simultaneously hold all 4 wheels and 24 lug nuts while standing on the scale with one foot (to better focus the pressure point on the scale and give you a more accurate reading); and take this total value and divide by 4. Make sure it's all 24 lug nuts (use your pockets if you must), wouldn't want to be a little off now...and while you're at it, can you get me measurements with and without the valve stem cap installed?

Seriously people, what is so weight critical on a ~5000# truck that we need to know much the wheels weigh right down to the lug nuts; this is not a 1000# lotus where every ounce matters, lol.

Dang, really have me second guessing getting the white!! That blue is dead on. Not too bright, light, dark etc. On a sunny day, wow.

Lol. Kinda have to agree. I got the wheels for her because she said they look cool. I didn't even consider the weight. That reminds me of a friend of mine that use to drag race. He was bragging one time about the 38 pounds he was saving by using a fiber glass hood that cost him $800 bucks by the time he got it painted. He was telling me this while stuffing his face with a triple patty cheeseburger and he's a good 40 lbs over weight. lol.
