My uncle has been running the exact same setup for 4 or 5 years and zero issues he also tows a decent sized camper during the summer and come fall he spends a lot of time in the woods.

How do you like those Mambas? Are they much lighter than the stock wheels?

The wheels are lighter but the tires negate the benefit.

OEM wheel is a little over 37 lbs
OEM tire is 36 lbs

Mamba M14 20" is 29 lbs
BFG KO2 in 275-55-20 is 53.1 lbs

So its around 9 lbs more per corner. The weight difference has not been noticeable but the wider stance and offset makes the 4R feel a hell of a lot more stable.

The Mamba wheels seem well made. No quality issues and balanced fine. One small note is the center caps are 2 piece with a bunch if tiny screws around them. Had one of them dangling almost all the way out. So i took each screw out and used loctite to keep them in place. That took a while. But im very happy with the wheels and found a killer price on them.

Yes. Hubcentric means the hub on the wheel closely fits the hub on the axle. Lugcentric means the lug holes in the wheels are tapered so that when the conical lugs are seated, they help hold the wheel in position on the lug. There are only a handful of aftermarket wheel brands that are hubcentric to the 4R. Most aftermarket wheels are lug centric.
 
I just read all 45 pages of this thread. Like everyone else here, I like the design of the OEM 20s and dislike how narrow they are.

The number of people (every ~8th post?) asking if ___ __ 20 tires will rub makes me laugh when it has been answered no less than 20 times over the course of 45 pages.

I think I'm going to buy the 17"x7.5" OEM 2006 Sequoia split 5 spoke wheels and mount them to 265/70/17 C-rated BFG K02s. While I love the OEM Limited wheels, the defiance from some tire sellers to mount larger tires to the wheels is annoying, and I'd really rather have something with more sidewall. 17" tires will be cheaper over the life of the vehicle and I really like how those Sequoia wheels look.

With that said, those rims are $400 a pop new. The 2014+ Trail rims are ~$290 or so and the same size. Hmmm...

If you buy those Sequoia wheels with 265 BFGs, do you think it will rub?

I'm sure you can find a vender to put 275/55 shoes on for you, just ask around. The local 4x4Parts guy told me they'd do it, but their prices are high. Maybe I'll call up Sam's soon to check with them...

Aftermarket wheels seem tempting to me for the weight *reduction, but I don't know that I'll make up the cost in fuel saved... and at any rate I'm only about 15,000 miles into this set so I've got a few years before I'll like swap tires.

These are the Black Rhino Traverse 20" x 9" with a 15 offset. The tires are the new Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 size 275/55R20. Not that aggressive looking as I do a lot of street driving, but All-Terrain and All-Weather nevertheless. They almost sit flush to the fender. A much better aggressive stance than the stock 20" x 7".

I'm very happy with the setup, and a huge improvement with the drive and handling. They slightest rub when the wheel is cranked on a slight slope, and I haven't seen a difference in fuel economy though I would expect it as they are a wider tire with likely more grip/friction.

Think I got it all covered. Thanks to all who contribute. Here are some photos. (It was a very dark day, and I'm lazy to re-take them).

There seems to be a bit of confusion wrt Toyota's rim size designations; not the most logical or user friendly system. So, just for clarification.

The "7J" rims for instance. The 7, does not represent the width of the rim, but the series {as in 7 through 7.5}. For example: A 7J X 17, as on the SR5 or the T.E. works out to be a rim that's 7" in width X 17" in diameter.

But on the "limited", a 7J X 20, measures out to be 7.5 inches in width, and a 20" diameter. A 7.5" X 17" rim for a SR5, or T.E. will have 7-1/2 J stamped on the inside of the rim casting.

So, a 7J on an O.E., L.E. will be "7.5 inches wide and 20 " in diameter (Not 7"); just for clarification.

Has anyone put a tape to an unmounted O.E. LE wheel and actually measured the width? Is it indeed 7" wide?

There are folks in this thread who have measured the bare rim itself with a measuring tape at 7" wide.

I'm too lazy to dig it up.
 
I'm curious if anyone has experienced hydroplaning with the OEM Yokohama Geolanders?

My truck is 4WD and only has about 3k miles on it, and it has now hydroplaned for the second time this morning, going about 30mph through a puddle that was only on the driver's side. Felt the loss of traction and a slight skid.

The first time, I was turning left and coming to a stop at the same time, also about 25-30mph, and while I was on the brakes, the truck just started skidding.

I am upgrading to smaller wheels and 265/70R17 BFG KO2s later this month, but so far, these Yokohamas seem like garbage tires.
