Being a new guy, how would you propose to tell someone anything? Serious question here. The question the OP posed is fairly unique and requires extensive cutting and even more extensive mods. It is not for the faint of heart. It is definitely not a "first mod" for someone to attempt. People who can do and have the ability to do this mod wouldn't ask a general question like "How do I fit 35's" they would ask "Now that I have done "X, Y and Z I am having a hard time figuring out how to shove "AA" over to give me a bit more clearance." This is why they said if you asked that question then this mod probably wasn't for the OP.

Back to the question: How do you tell a new guy here about tire fitment? About waxes? About roof racks, wheels, seat covers, headlights, etc. They have been asked and answered in a clear and concise manner dozens, if not hundreds of times. We have stickies. We have FAQ's that would answer almost every question. We tell people to search to no avail. Nobody reads the stickies even though it says to read the stickies and FAQ's first. How would be a better way? I would like to know what you think. When I was a new guy here there were not a lot of questions that were answered yet so my experience is quite different than yours.

Lastly, it seems that people who have only been here for a short time don't quite get the heavy joking and sarcasm that is the norm here. It is not a bunch of old guys who have cliques. There are many "newer" guys that figured it out pretty quickly (and fit right in) and many older guys who have never (and never will) figure out the joking and constant banter. That's OK.

You had enough gumption to come here and call people who have answered questions many times and spent a lot of energy helping others "A$$HOLES." So I pose the question: How could it be a better experience for the new guy?

Pretty much agree with all that, except the stickies are just not that good. They are out of date, too long and don't summarize enough of the common questions. Things do change and they are stale.

As far as your question to him... "better experience for a new guy..." I think he already sort of answered it. Just don't respond. Someone will eventually point them in the right direction without being insulting at the same time.

How about just respond with info or not. If you are sick and tired if of people not searching before asking a question then just ignore the thread. let someone that feels like actually answering the question respond.

Instead people act smug and respond rudely. Just look at pretty much every 5th gen thread. They all go to hell in a hand basket within about four comments. I have seen very little help from others in these threads and I when I do I have to sift through pages of worthless comments to find it. Then someone always says near the end of the thread go back and read carefully and you will see that we answered your question.

This is how the forum works now: someone ask a question, the others all drop a deuce in front of him and say dig through that for your answer. Or we can use the search forum at dig through many piles of poo for little gems of info.

As for this thread there are two really useful comments that answer the question. One from Marshal in response to my comment and one I think on the third page that list a lot of things he would need to do and more. But there are pages of crap in between. So now if someone searches 35s you expect them to read through all the worthless responses to get to any real info on the topic and then you wonder why they resort to asking the question in a new topic.

You have even admitted in another thread that you are equally rude to everyone. Yet you are asking me how you could possibly make the experience better for a new guy. I guess if you have to ask, the answer is no. you wont figure it out.

Exactly, then each thread would just be filled with actual useful info. Nothing wrong with some banter either but how about the first couple of comments be useful so the next person that searched the topic can find an answer quickly and doesn't end up asking it again in a new thread.

I try. Some of the others try. Sometimes, after a few beers, I don't try as hard. Sometimes, I am short on my answers because there is a lot of information on the topic and it is asked often. Sometimes, I just want to entertain myself (how sad...). While I agree that we can sometimes come off strong to newbies, we more often than not mean well and even the a-holes you will come to love in time. I've never seen you be rude... just helpful. Others, not always helpful, but its fine, the world is not perfect for everyone all the time.

The only thing that pisses me off is people piling on when they don't have any first hand knowledge themselves....

The ideal solution to all this is splitting the 5th gen section into at least two sections. General and Technical.

Technical would need to have a policy and moderation where all banter related responses are deleted. This would leave us with a searchable base of useful concise information.

General, would have all the banter and misc stuff.

I noticed it too ! I think it has to do with demographics, I bet if you did a pole in the 5th gen section you would get a lot of republicans , and I think you would get a lot of Democrats in the 3rd gen section . just my stupid observation which is probably totally wrong. So don't everybody lose their minds.

We want people to search first so that they don't clutter the forum with useless threads that get in the way of people who ARE searching. I understand that you think you should be waited on hand and foot and have no idea what goes into a writeup, but the guys that have been there and done that put a fair amount of effort into them because they're trying to f*cking help. Lazy jerks that don't search clog the board with threads that reference a subject but add no useful info (like this one), which makes it harder to find the info they should have searched for in the first place. Ignorant jackasses like yourself who come in all high and mighty to defend said lazy jerks aren't helping at all.

The guys that have been here a long time and have a fair amount invested in this forum have been quite clear exactly how they're trying to manage information flow, and quite frankly they have more say than you because they generated that information.
