Just because I ask doesn't mean I lack the know how and ability to do so, but this is a completely new platform for me and obviously I don't know the restrictions and obstacles and that's why I asked in the first place. I could be an ass hat too and post build threads and pics of all of my past rigs and show how I'm very seasoned in the 4wd/off-road world but none of that is relevant to the question I asked.

I get the forum sarcasm and the regulars pouncing on the fresh meat, I see it in all of the forums I participate in but rarely does it do any good, instead it turns people away, people who share the same interests as you which is why these forums exist in the first place.

From an outside look..... In your first post you mentioned nothing about having any previous experience on any platform. You asked if you could fit 35s on a 5th gen. To the layman you look as though you know nothing. If you would have worded your question slightly different, you would have received a different result. Searching would have yielded the build thread I posted and the tire fitment guide... slightly helpful but probably not the exact answers you were looking for. I'm not remotely interested in putting 35s on my truck, but I used the Google machine and found those two posts... for you.... because I thought you knew nothing. Since you have mentioned that you do indeed have experience; albeit with a different platform, I assume that you would have a general idea that it would take a lot of work and a lot of cash. The mention of those items would have greatly improved the quality of your first post in this thread that you created.

Instead... there were several helpful threads scattered amongst the sh!t show. Welcome to the 5th Gen section.

I'm just going to say it, as I know many are thinking it. Most of you old farts here with tons of posts are complete ass hats. (and I'm not talking about your age) You spend most of your time screwing with people and acting like you saved the world with you knowledge. Really, you are that all knowing? I'm not impressed. I just hope you don't act like this in real life.

What you don't realize is there is way more knowledge out there than what you poses. There are tons of people reading this site that never post, and know so much more than you. And most don't post because of the attitudes. I'm not saying they are smarter than you, but one person simply can't know it all.

What makes a site like this so valuable is that everyone combined has so much knowledge and common interest. Acting like it has all been answered before and everything is a done deal is just ignorant.

I understand the need to search... but each time a question is asked a bit more information is revealed... and when people search and revive an old thread I see people also *****... So shut up and ignore it....

I'm afraid that makes too much sense for some in this group. We must allow a forum for those who wish to add nothing productive to a thread the space to open their mouths and show their true colors.

What's funny is that the question I asked pertains to all of three build threads that I've found and/or have been directed to. It's not like this is a very common mod so obviously the info I am seeking isn't readily available nor has it been attempted many times thereby furthering my need to reach out and ask.

And I agree with you, it is not a done deal. In 2 years there will be lots of people running 35s and they will be doing it via several different approaches. Like I said in my original post, I think it can be done pretty easy with LR UCAs. and some minor bump stop extensions. Let me know via PM if you need more help. I have experimented with several things, just have not tried what is considered a true 35. This is not rocket science....

In the end though, it still might not be the best choice.

Case in point: That poster Paul Davis called us a-holes. Instead of getting mad I took some time and asked how we could handle new guy posts better. His answer was not to post! I gave him a perfect opportunity and a platform to voice his opinion from a new poster perspective and instead of answering he said don't post! That's not an answer that is a cop out.

You criticized the FAQ's and the stickies as being outdated and unorganized after I suggested that should be one of the first places newbies should go. Instead of criticizing you should go through and update the ones that need fixing. That would help a lot more people, especially the new guys you have decided to defend, instead of criticizing us old guy and doing nothing to help those same guys.

It's really easy to call people asshats and write critical posts just like yours I quoted. It's much harder to actuall be part of the solution. Your critical post does nothing, which means it is just about as useful as those you are criticizing.

I've met 3 or 4 new 5th gen owners recently in person and they all said "man, I read that forum all the time but would never post... people are so rude and crazy..." and these are very nice reasonable people with cool builds, but they don't contribute because of the bully mentality..

Speaking of real advice, maybe people who have no applicable experience to the topic at hand (fitting 35s... on a 5th gen), should stay out of the thread unless they have something to add to the actual topic.

I still think that is a legit response, although not what you want to hear. The forum would be better for newbs if the haters would just move on. Someone who has interest in the topic will eventually respond with an answer or point them in the right direction. The piling on is the cop out.

First off, the FAQs... are not useless, they are just not the end all be all... I would update portions if I could, Many have 200+ responses... It becomes unusable (or at least painful) if the info is not on the first page...

I saw all the threads blaming TRD pro owners for it... then the "we have a problem in the 5th gen section" thread and I tried to stay out of reading them. This topic interested me, so I got pulled into the drama. Maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut.

Yes it would be work, copying and pasting the good parts to a new thread but nothing good is ever easy right? Tell you what: I'll even help you if you want to spearhead it. You go through and develop a plan and identify what needs updating and I will share the editing part. no excuses.

Personally I agree with this section needing a bit of a change and I think with slight moderation it will happen. Right now we do not have that. Let me know if you want my help to do something useful for new guys, according to you.

Being a new guy, how would you propose to tell someone anything? Serious question here. The question the OP posed is fairly unique and requires extensive cutting and even more extensive mods. It is not for the faint of heart. It is definitely not a "first mod" for someone to attempt. People who can do and have the ability to do this mod wouldn't ask a general question like "How do I fit 35's" they would ask "Now that I have done "X, Y and Z I am having a hard time figuring out how to shove "AA" over to give me a bit more clearance." This is why they said if you asked that question then this mod probably wasn't for the OP.

Back to the question: How do you tell a new guy here about tire fitment? About waxes? About roof racks, wheels, seat covers, headlights, etc. They have been asked and answered in a clear and concise manner dozens, if not hundreds of times. We have stickies. We have FAQ's that would answer almost every question. We tell people to search to no avail. Nobody reads the stickies even though it says to read the stickies and FAQ's first. How would be a better way? I would like to know what you think. When I was a new guy here there were not a lot of questions that were answered yet so my experience is quite different than yours.

Lastly, it seems that people who have only been here for a short time don't quite get the heavy joking and sarcasm that is the norm here. It is not a bunch of old guys who have cliques. There are many "newer" guys that figured it out pretty quickly (and fit right in) and many older guys who have never (and never will) figure out the joking and constant banter. That's OK.

You had enough gumption to come here and call people who have answered questions many times and spent a lot of energy helping others "A$$HOLES." So I pose the question: How could it be a better experience for the new guy?

I wasn't going to get into it, but yeah. The ratio of ninnies to gearheads gets proportionately higher the newer the truck gets. There's almost zero drama in the Classics section, a little bit in the 3rd gen section, a little more in the 4th gen section, and then there's the raging cesspit that is the 5th gen section.

And it has f*ckall to do with political affiliation, [MENTION=20381]05Rrunner[/MENTION]. That's the kinda thing a guy who plays identify politics would say - I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you're proud of being a Democrat, am I wrong?

Pretty much why I always used to hang out in the 1st gen section of the rx7 forum I was on.....and the fact I couldn't afford a 3rd gen at the time.
