Installed my aFe CAI today...

So I just finished up installing my aFe CAI. I am most certainly no mechanic, but confident in my ability to turn a screwdriver.

The install is not difficult. I took my time, read the instructions etc and it took a little over an hour.

The two things that caused me the most grief:

#1: getting the box to line up with the holes in the frame. Had to move my stock horn (easy) so that the box could fit properly. (this is noted in the instructions) (Next mod...replace the horn!)

#2 installing the MAF sensor on the tube. Had to break out the dremel to make the hole just a little bigger so that the sensor sits flush next to the foam gasket.

Other than that, it was quite easy and the instructions were right on the money.

Took it for a quick spin. Not much different at slow speeds (didn't expect anything here), but can definitely hear the deep sound when you hit the gas.

MPGs - too early to tell and not counting on any improvement
More HPs - still too early to tell. Need to get it out on the hwy and open it up

Worth the $$$...well for the new sound YES...but I also had some $$ burning a hole in my pocket and wanted to do something under the hood that I felt capable of doing.

Will report back after a few tanks of gas with performance and MPGs.

So before I purchase this beauty, is it CA Smog complaint? Or will I have to keep my stock intake for the times that I need to get it smoged?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I see in these pics that the seal at the bottom of the box is not installed. My question is...should the seal be installed if you don't have a snorkel? If it's not installed, doesn't this draw warm air from the engine compartment?

Thanks for any help.

Love it!

I had the aFe CAI installed for almost a week now. Haven't gone through a full tank yet, but the MPGs don't seem to be much different (wasn't expecting anything significant here). However, I am guilty of stomping on the gas a few times...hehehe!! Throttle response seems better than before, but maybe I'm just hoping there is an improvement there.

I do hear a very faint whistler during acceleration when the RPMs are between approx 1800 to 2100 +/-. But I don't here the whistler when cruising. And it is so faint that it doesn't bother me at all.

Overall I am very please with the aFe CAI, ease of installation and nice sound.

Does anyone know the cheapest price out on the net right now for the AFE intake? Cheapest I can find is $337.00.

Man, does this thing make a difference.. maybe, not power wise, but appearance/sound/feel wise.. love it.

I just ordered and installed one from Auto Anything. It was around 335, but if you search google, you can get a 15% off coupon to bring it down to $287 and free shipping.
