Afe is here!

URD also sells the AFE CAI's and they sell a MAF calibrator as well. As far as needing the MAF calibrator? Well you would have to reach out to Gadget and ask him for the technical answer on that. I bought both of them from URD and then took my truck to him in order to do the calibration/tuning, so I could get the optimal performance from my set-up (with headers). I believe the MAF cals are shipped already calibrated, but you would have to check with him on that. I bought a blank one so I could get the calibration done specific to my truck.

As far as gas mileage is concerned...That's tough for me to say. I get 16 mpg combined (from the computer and hand calculated at every fill-up). But I have a few negatives:
1- NY State has the worst gas in the NE it seems. On road trips south, I instantly get about 2 additional mpg when filling up in states with less, or no, ethanol added.
2- I have about a 3" lift
3 -I am running 285's

Lets hear it! I am trying to decide if I should grab one of these, on AutoAnything for 286 shipped. I already have an aFe dry filter but I can get $40 back on that from a buddy with an FJ (assuming it fits, looks like it will).
 
I am happy with my aFe intake. It's early in its life in my truck but so far so good. It seems as though I will be getting slightly better mileage with it as long as I don't drive heavy footed to hear it roar. I just hope that it will get its C.A.R.B. certificate so I don't have to put the stock one back in come smog time.

Performance wise they are going to be the same pretty much. I bought the aFe due to ease of access to the filter for cleaning. I just have to unscrew a few screws and that is all.

With the TRD you have to take the whole top off which includes hose couplers. Seems like a lot of work for a simple clean.
 
Mine works great,

There is a slight whistle when you go at low speeds and don't have music on or anything. but it's not that noticeable.

Can't comment on the gas millage, I've been stepping on it... :roadkill:

Warranty Protection Act

As I understand it... There is nothing you can do that will instantly VOID a warranty, if somthing goes wrong and they can PROVE it was caused by an action done by (aka you mess with wiring and the electrical system shorts due to you messing with it) THEN they can refuse coverage.

Please correct me if Im wrong in my understaning.

I have no experience with a CAI or any aftermarket intake. How often are you cleaning your filter? Every month? Week? oil changes, etc? Are you just running it under water? Also, which model did you get and why? the 5R, dry 2-filer, or pro guard 7 also there is a value pack, does that just mean more filters? What the hell is a restore kit

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these and I'm leaning towards the dry filter for convenience of maintenance. Does anyone know if there is a hit to performance? I'd rather do the maintenance if there is more power/intake available with the oiled filter.

even if there is a hp difference between filters your not going to notice by seat of you pants response, you may just see that on the dyno but why waste your money on a dyno run.

Thanks viper1350. Sounds like not a noticable difference between the two. think I'll go with the dry filter.

In previous cars I always had two filters. One on the car and one to swap for cleaning. I would usually clean my filter every 6 months. With the runner it is going to depend on how much wheeling I do and what type of conditions it is in.

As far as cleaning it usually is as simple as putting some cleaner on the filter and letting it soak then running water from the inside out to flush out everything. Let dry (and re oil if you have the oil one). re install.

I went with the 5R but will most likely order a dry filter for my second. Then run both for a time and see which performs better and use that as my go to filter and the other will be the swap for cleaning.

Intakes: K&N, AEM, Injen - any feedback on AEM or Injen for 5th gen

The shop in my town specializes in K&N, AEM, Injen CAI's. It seems like the consensus on this forum is the AFE is the best fit and fitment for the 5th gen 4runner.

Curious if anyone's used one of the AEM or Injen's (I've seen feedback here on the K&N)
