Afe is here!

According to the URD website, it's a 10 hp and 15lb/ft and 30% increase in air flow over the stock unit. Since they build aftermarket superchargers, it's safe bet that they have had it on a dynometer to verify the increase, but I couldn't tell you if they measured at the wheel or with the engine in a stand. A MPG increase is not claimed at all.

My only question is: Does it whistle like the TRD?

No whistle that I can hear.

I have now driven a "few" miles (200+) with the AFE and see no increase in MPG. My MPG has finally settled in at a steady 18.9 with the 285's with the intake. I was seeing slightly better before the intake but figure a few heavy pedal runs cut me back some.
The biggest plus for me is the throttle response. My runner had a hesitation when slightly pressing the pedal, almost a stumble. That is completely gone. It may have been turbulence with all the quieting chambers in the stock unit, who knows... For me, that alone was worth the $$$; even my wife noticed it was gone!
Also I do believe there is some HP gains on the top end, I did a run from 60 to 90 (I know it's not real science) but to me it felt quicker. If AFE is stating 10HP that could be believable and if 10hp is rwhp, would be feelable (is that a word?) IMHO, equaling a 5% increase in rwhp if you do the math.

Would I buy again, yup. I feel I got benefits from the unit.

Hopefully others will be chiming in with their experiences on the AFE.

Installed my aFe yesterday and like Airwolf, I am very pleased with the fit and finish of the unit. Install was simple and it fit really well.

Upon first drive I feel that it has increased throttle response. I am sure that I gained some power, but butt dyno didnt notice anything crazy. It is a little louder than before.

I am putting my aFe flat filter up for sale in the classified section if anyone is interested.

I also ordered a Sprint Booster. It should be here next week. I have always been interested in it and read some reviews of it over on the FJ forum. Everyone over there seemed to be very happy with the results. It does not provide any additional power, just makes getting the power we already have a little easier I will post some comments about it once I get it installed. It is pricey for a little black box, but hopefully I will be just as happy as everyone else with it. I will keep you all posted.

Please post your review on the Sprint Booster. The throttle lag on Toyota's DBW system drives me nuts, and I would gladly spend $300 if it works.

I don't see a unit listed for the 5th gen on the sprintbooster website. Are you just going to try installing the 4th gen version? I guess it could be a generic kind of module.

On aFe's website there are two part numbers. one is 54-81932 and the other is 51-81932. Both products seem to be identical with different part numbers. Can anyone tell me what the difference between the two? I sure do like the 281 price much more then the 393 price.

EDIT: Well, I guess I was having that itch again. The website said it would work so I just bought it. Hopefully it'll be here within a week or so.

Sprint Booster For Toyota

I bought a unit for a 2010 FJ, which has the same engine as the 4runner. The link came from another forum. I am sure all will be fine, but I can return if for some reason it does not work out. Another guy was running one for a 2010 tundra and was very pleased with the results. Bottom line, I think that a lot of their units are exactly the same, with a different part number. I will let you know how it works out.

Install

Trying to install the new aFe, and the damn MAF was a bit of a bear to install, but I got it done. The rest of the install went like a breeze, did have to move my horn, but that was about 2 minutes.

Fully up an functioning now, took a bit more than :30, but I am a bit of a novice at stuff like this... Went for a test drive and it seems to live up to my expectations. Much better sound at 1/2 and up throttle, and it is damn near loud at 4k RPM and up. Throttle response sure seems better, in particular that little bit of lag I always felt from a start seems gone. A very slight whistle, but only in a certain rpm range.

More after I have driven it some, including on the highway.

Install was quick and simple. Took maybe an hour plus teaching my little brother how it works, and doing everything slow so I didnt $#%$ it up.

drove it a mile down the street to get gas and sound has definitely improved. Idk about power or that lag yet. Not enough time in it yet. Sound was definitely worth it paired up with the magnaflow. I'm happy with it

The difference between the 54-81932 and the 51-81932 is that 54-81932 uses "Pro 5R" and 51-81932 uses "Pro Dry S"

But I don't know what the two differences are or what's better.
