Factory Alarm Anti-Beep Switch :lmao:

Is it just me, or does the "beep!" get on your nerves sometimes when locking/unlocking your doors, and setting the security system?

Most of the time the sound is convenient, but when I leave for work early and it's quiet in the neighborhood the little "beep-beep" sounds like "BEEP!!! BEEP!!!" LOL

Most aftermarket alarms allow you to flip a switch and turn the audible indicator on / off.

It's easy to do...

First of all, I couldn't find the damn beeper to save my life! According to the 2010 service manual (praise to Nashman!!) it's supposed to be on the passenger side fender well. For my 2011, the wire and plug is there, the beeper is not. I kept locking, unlocking, locking, unlocking to pinpoint the sound and finally found it. The location is inside the driver's side fender well.

The hardest part of this MOD is getting to the beeper and reattaching it. Hint- MANHANDLE the fender liner. It's plastic, bend it out of the way and it'll go back just like new.


Anywho:

Here's the location. The blue thing is the back of the beeper. Squeeze the tabs to release it into the inner fender liner.












Take out these fasteners in the drivers wheel well. You can get by with only removing 1 to get it out, but I had to remove the other 3 to get it back in...

















Reach up and pull the beeper out, unplug it and pull the wire back into the engine compartment.


















Cut some of the wire loom and cut the wire. I cut the ground and chose to run a duplex to the switch and use the factory ground. You could also just ground the switch and run 1 wire. Your choice...












Now is where you will need to femaledog slap (they won't let me type *****slap) that fender liner! Pull it out of the way and fish the wire back down so you can plug the beeper back in. Now you need to reattach the beeper's blue connector to the fender well. It's not too hard, just a little tight with the fender liner in the way. Reattach the fender liner.



I ran the wires through the factory grommet (driver's footwell) and over to the center console. No need to get fancy here, I just used a simple On/Off switch I had in the box. I mounted it behind my CB where it's easy to get to, but unobtrusive.















That's all there is to it!


Switch closed= beep (original function)

Switch open= No beep, just visual flash from the hazard lights.

Yes, the security system functions the same either way.

EDIT- I really didn't know you could turn it off- BUT it requires the Techstream software. At least this allows me to select whether it beeps or not at anytime.

I was actually thinking how to make that beeplouder. You know it's a little bit embarrassing that my wife's Mazda3 beep it twice louder than from my truck : )
So shut it down for good might be not such a bad idea...

Went for a bike ride this morning and had to snap some phone pics off the side of the trail. Beautiful morning!









After my ride I decided to finally light up the cargo area (camping coming up!) with the Snooperstyle LED mod.

I mounted mine in a slightly different location. I figured they can't get ripped off by cargo where they are and you can't see them directly at all while looking into the cargo area (no glare). These are bright enough light up the area during the daylight, so I think I'll be alright tonight!

Jeff, where did you tap the power for the lights? The factory tailgate dome lights by any chance?

Nope, Sorry! I actually rewired my voltage regulator panel so the button now switches the LED's on as well.

I may just wire it into the hatch lights at some point. It's a PITA running wires in there because of the rear window.

This is exactly why I asked because it sure seems like a pain in the butt. I guess I'll keep waiting for your DIY, because I need to get some wires through the hatch and into the body too

Nice placement of the LED strips. Very stealthy. Yup I occasionally knock it off when loading stuff, but usually I can just stick it right back on there. If I ever need to replace mine, I'd like to know your feedback on where you have them. Are there shadows in the corners etc?

Either way, you are gonna love this mod, especially for camping!

These are exactly what I am looking for, thanks very much guys! In case either of you is curious, I plan to run wires to the rear hatch key switch to actuate the tailgate up and down signals through my alarm's aux outputs. I've got the front/rear windows up and down wired up to my remote, and this is all that I am missing to feel "complete" (even though I only use it like 1% of the time, lol).
