Changing to Max Life ATF

Hi,

I have been running plain old Valvoline Dexron III ATF but noticed the Maxlife flavor is quite popular on this forum especially for older trannys. Mines at 157K.

Should I consider a full flush or can I drain a fill a couple times?

I saw a video of a guy who changed is fluid but disconnecting inlet and out let hoses from the transmission cooler and let it suck fresh ATF from a pail till it all ran nice and red in the outlet.

This seems fool proof…any concerns? I've always been told hard core flushes are not good for older trannys so this seems like a more low impact method. Seems like it could over fill though….

Any concerns with this approach?

Thanks,

UTEP

I don't think the new fluid will get sucked up into the trans. I think people have tried and it didn't work. Is this video of a 4runner? Flushing through the cooler lines is safe and drain and fills are fine too.

No it wasn't a 4R, some little 4 popper.

But otherwise the synthetic Maxlife mixes with the old school Dexron?
