You would be golden if you find one with manual hubs. then you wont have any electrical work to do. You wouldnt have a 4wd light, but thats minor. I think a 2.7 taco should work as well. there are more 2.7 taco 4wds out there with manual hubs than 4runners

This is true. I could always make the light come on by tapping it into something that would engage when 4WD does.

If the electronics are the same, I don't see why not. If I have to, maybe a 4Runner ECU might be in order. I am not sure the gearing for the Tacoma is the same in the auto trans. Isn't that controlled by the ECU?

Nah, they all have em 99+. It's also got RR DIFF LOCK, ABS, etc, just things I don't have.

well i think you should add those things! haha seems like it would make for an even easier installation as far as all the electronics go. if there is already a light for 4x4 then shouldnt all the harnessing and plugs for the transfer case be there too?

I think many of the 4WD items are there. I do have a fuse with power going to it labeled 4WD. Possibly have the module but I don't know which it is. I'll have to look. I don't believe the transfer case harness is there. The main harness may have the necessary wiring, though the harness that plugs into that for the transmission is most likely not sufficient for a transfer case. I'll get into that when the time comes, what a mess that'll be!

In other news, the UPS man dropped off a hefty package full of happiness and awesome today. Accessories included, not shown.

Picked up a URD interstitial ECU harness for adding a piggyback ECU. I can retain my stock harness without modification. $80, normally $160.

Waiting for funds to order ARP Intake Manifold Studs and a Teflon Gasket set. Next paycheck. Then, install.

This has to be one of my top favorite builds since you're building a 2WD. Keep up the awesome work and I can't wait to see the supercharger installed, you should make some before and after videos on acceleration. Oh and btw all 96+ 2WD 4Runner's have the 4WD dash light and fuse, not just the 99+.

If I were to do a 4WD swap on mine I want to swap in the 99-00 Limited t-case since it has the center diff. I have no idea if it would work but it bolts up to the A340F and I hear it can bolt up to the R150.

You've got first dibs on it in the case I get that shrockworks I've always wanted. My mom's 4Runner had some cracked Michelin LTX's, I just put them on her car since they've got plenty of miles left.

Yeah... you see, when I put that in, my intention was to have it in by now. Just my luck when I found that the rotors were peeling, so I have to save a few more bucks to have it rebuilt (which I guess I should anyway.)

Trust me, it eats at me every day seeing that supercharger not in my engine bay

1. The blower units rotors are coated in a special teflon coating. It appears they're peeling a bit, which may reduce boost and efficiency.

I was perusing your build again...of course I got to commend the color choice! Truck is bad a**! So, I recently threw in a CB and PA system. I find that the PA works if the volume is maxed out, but could def stand to have more volume. I want to know some more details about this speaker/amplifier combo. Why is there a household 110V looking plug in the kit? How does it wire in, just directly to the back of the radio like the cheaper PA speaker options?

The speaker that I use for my PA wasn't exactly intended for such, but it works excellently.

Basically, it's sold as a universal speaker than can be used for anything. It sounds god awful for anything other than a PA, so I really doubt they're selling out on these things.

It comes with a ton of extra attachments, a car plug, a home plug, and a plug which can be wired to power if you plan to hard wire. It's rather convenient for use as a PA speaker.

It wires in exactly as the CB radio itself does (the speaker itself does not need external power, though the amplifier does). Then, with a simple 3.5mm mono cable, you plug it into the back of the CB and it's ready.

Actually, since I didn't really wanna ghetto rig this, I wired it with an inline fuse to the battery. The speaker isn't too far from the battery anyway, so this was actually a shorter and easier route. I want to get a auxiliary fuse box, but this works well in the meantime.

I am not sure, but I would imagine that the extra power draw from the amplifier might be too high to just tap into an existing fuse... but I am new to wiring. The battery seemed the safest choice for my other electronics.

The driver's kick panel is a bit sketchy, though. I initially installed my CB tapped into the 4WD fuse (ironic... lol), but I didn't like it at all. Instead, to keep the CB from turning on when the vehicle is off, I t-tapped my CB into the radio harness with two male spade connectors. The T-taps were already there from a previous iPod cable installation, which was meant to charge iPhones. I have since changed to a different style that does not charge iPhones and does not require the extra power tap. The CB only comes on with the radio.

Now, you might ask, why wire it to the battery where it will constantly have power? Answer is simple. The amplifier is triggered by an incoming signal (when I talk into the microphone). The amplifier will stay powered for a total of 30 seconds after the signal stops. It then shuts off automatically, so the constant power issue is no problem. The only drawback is that the microphone must be pushed on for about a second before the actual amp turns on, which is actually pretty nice when my friends mess with the microphone when I don't want them to.

Here's some videos to demonstrate the PA speaker/amplifier. It's really loud in person. If you were to stand in front of the vehicle while someone is talking through the PA, it would be as uncomfortable as someone honking the horn in your face.

Sorry guys, lately, about the lame updates. Still working overtime to save up enough to rebuild the supercharger. It shouldn't be much longer than a month before it's rebuilt and in the truck.

To continue my lame-athon, here's some tiny updates.

Replaced my passenger's side auto switch. The original somehow broke and became really super sensitive. Swapped in a "new" one from an 01 Sport Edition. Switch only, same bezel.

One of my roof rack end caps flew off while on the freeway to buy my steering rack replacement. Finally got a new end cap, from the same donor 01 Sport.

My 4Runner never came with a rear spoiler, running boards, roof rack, tow hitch, or any of that fancy stuff. I bought a used rear spoiler from a junkyard back in 2009. The paint on it wasn't excellent, so I repainted it twice. Since my last paint job, it started fading pretty bad. It was also pretty scratched up (beyond paint work). I decided to swap it out, again from the 01 Sport.

My rear windshield wiper assembly was bent since I got mine, too. I replaced the blade back in 2009, which is when I realized the whole thing was bent. Bending it back didn't help, so I swapped my old wiper for a new one from the same 01 Sport. I went to the Toyota dealer and paid for another insert, though this time, the rear wiper sweeps the whole windshield (which is all I care about)

The last, I just snagged a bunch of clips for random stuff like door panels, etc. They don't match the same color, but it's the function I really care about. They prevent a lot of rattling from the door panels. It's sickening when they're not there.

Other randoms include teflon tape for the boost gauge, which is still making noise of leaking at about 7Hg and 3Hg (IDK WTF WHY, it's annoying!)
