COB's 87 4Runner Turbo

Some pissed off loon sent me an email, angry about my asking price. You can type negotiable as much as you can, but there's still going to be some dick who can't read.

Wow, those jerks over at www.toyota-4runner.org! Darn them :)

Everyone keeps flagging your ad because you want $3200 for a 4runner with a crap motor. And we know you bought it for $900 and are trying to sucker someone!!!! Mostly likely the guys from yotatech, toyota-4runner.org, ttora, marlincrawler flagging your ad. Not to mention the red interior is god awful, it's got a crapload of miles on it, and the exterior paint/graphics are shot. With that being said and taking into consideration the massive motor issue and red interior, $900 is a fair price to be asking for it, go look up some comps on other parts 4runner turbo's before you shoot for the stars . If you want to sell it, you are gonna have to reduce your price drastically!

Haha some people, I swear.

I had a buyer who was asking $2500, was going to give it to him until he bought a 1972 BMW 2002. Said it was too good of a deal, which I can understand. Says he will buy it if I still have it by New Years. Not really in a hurry so that might work.

Another guy wants me to ship to Texas, while another wants it shipped to Virginia... awesome, however I would prefer a local sale.

Haha I've got the ad copied and pasted into a Notepad file, I'll keep posting no matter how many times he flags it.

That's what I thought.

But it could be that he rented it to bank robber to use in a bank robbery and the pay was decent, so now he's debt free, but he now has a 4Runner that was used during a bank robbery and is currently being questioned.

It sat for a while, tarp over the windshield to keep the heat down. I also bought an ECU for it as I was only borrowing John's before.

I went over to Pep Boys to get some Duplicolor paint. It's only about $7 per can. OEM silver looks pretty good. The center caps on these wheels are from a T100, the front ones are cut out to fit the manual hubs.

Painted them alongside my 3rd gen's wheels, they're 17" from a Tundra. Those got a coat of Gunmetal.

While the wheels were off, you could really get a good look at the bushings and brakes. This truck is going need a boat load of new parts... sounds like a better end product to me!

It's also sagging very badly, the bumpstops hardly have any space between them.

The next things up were finding the silly things that previous owners do. There was some ghetto rear speaker wiring done through the weather stripping on the doors. Some old amp wires wrapped around through the dash and under the carpets. The radio looked like it was wired by a 10 year old.

While looking through 2nd gens, I took a shifter surround. The old one was broken to bits and the indicators didn't line up. I don't plan to keep the auto, a 5 speed swap will happen when I find an R151

I googled common issues for these trucks. While reading up about the ZUK mod, I remembered I had some coils from my old parts truck. I tried them out and they fit! 15" length. Springs are from the rear of a 2000 4Runner SR5 4WD.

I had to remove the extra add-a-leafs from the springs, which was feasible thanks to my good friend PB Blaster.

Rock auto had a closeout sale, I got 4 Monroe shocks for $51 shipped! They're waiting to be installed when the truck hits the garage.

Made a pretty successful run to the junkyard. Found a mint dome light cover and tailgate latch cable from a 2nd gen.

Yeah so a couple years ago, my 3rd gen was vandalized. I never knew who did it until the person responsible came over and apologized.

Well of course I wanted my money back for the damage, and some interest would be nice. With no job, he had no way to pay me back.

I took it home, didn't even wash it. Put the intake manifold, throttle body, fuel rails, and some other ˟˟˟˟ back on. Fired it up, of course, being a 4.6 Ford, had bad rod knock. Threw it on craigslist and scored $2900 for it.

I just want to mention that this truck drove itself into the garage on it's own power. The fuel pump has been getting worse gradually. It was in 4LO in reverse struggling to make it into the garage. It's last mile was 264,601. The moment was cold, like watching an animal crawl into it's grave.

Immediately got to work on the 4Runner. Gonna rip it's guts out!

Drained coolant, removed air box and battery. The skid had a stripped bolt so the lower valance had to come off too. Got the skid off and pulled the rad. Had to go to the dentist so I only got about an hour in. Surprisingly the ATF wasn't horrid.
